You could make several manes if you feel like it. They grey longer and darker with age right? |

Asiatic Lions, are kind of bald, compared to there African cousins. Maybe re-skinning the mane, to make it match the body more. Edited by Ulquiorra, Nov 14 2017, 01:29 PM.

On this picture maybe. They may have less hair, it starts somewhere a little closer to the eyes. Especially in captivity where they seem to grow bigger manes. When the mane starts as far as on your picture, which is quite normal for wild asiatic lions, there is less hair as in Scott's mane, at least at the beginning of the mane. |

![]() This is a Captive Asiatic Lion from Chester Zoo. I will just keep the mane more like this and of course this is the idea color scheme I was looking at. The pose I did for the male probably didn't help either... Edited by Scott, Nov 14 2017, 02:25 PM.

Thanks for the oxpecker and revealing male lion's reskin. The lion above is IMHO not fully Asian. He has more Barbary-like look, Asiatic cousins are usually more "bald".

See I can see the Barbary... I suppose a lot of captive species are mixed, but still I prefer this look for it. Chester Zoo label that individual as Asiatic. It's not done Tigris... ![]() Ok... so what if I did the mane more like Eryel's? http://thezt2roundtable.com/search/?c=3&mid=3526831&month=9&year=2014 Edited by Scott, Nov 14 2017, 03:16 PM.

Perhaps it is Asiatic, but enormously hairy one. Most Asiatic lion males have much shorter manes. Yeah, her male lion is a consensus version of what typical Asiatic lion male looks like. BTW: I like the blackish mane of the hairy lion from Chester Zoo. |

Chester does have Asiatic lion according to zootierliste. I don't know how pure the animals they keep are but they came from Magdeburg (which themselves came from Lodz Zoo, after that I lost the track although it seems most animals originate from London Zoo and once again, I don't know where those came from) Anyway. I really really needed an oxpecker, my life is complete! ![]() The lion looks really good too. ![]() (Also, by the way, Barbary lions are very close genetically to Asian lions, they are even deemed as the same by some authorities so I would not be surprised if wild individuals were dark-maned although most of Gir animals seem to be bald). Thanks for the Research ZTFR! I do appreciate that. I will decide to either follow Eryel's mane design or I might still do the Chester Zoo one as I really like it. You have to remember large maned ones are probably only found in captivity for obvious reasons. Edited by Scott, Nov 14 2017, 05:37 PM.

From what I've read they develop bigger manes in captivity because of the colder climate. In any case great job, I'm happy you are working on it again! |

I know that all Asian lions in zoos now are pure because once it was found that many were mutts, the SSP was restarted from scratch with new founders from India. |
