Interesting news! I was hoping a phorusrhacid discovery like this would happen, specially after Titanis was revealed to have gone extinct much earlier than originally thought. Do you know if there's any more info on a more exact age determination? Greetings! Edited by Komodo, Jul 6 2017, 08:08 PM.

The paper mentions it was found on a formation dating from the latest of the pleistocene, alongside many other characteristic creatures from that time such as Stegomastodon and Glyptodon, which probably puts this guy anywhere from 50k to 12k years ago, coexisting with smilodon, canines and maybe even early humans. |

What size are we talking though? The article is behind a paywall and I can't find anything in the abstract. If it was a small, seriema-sized species it's not as relevant for the competition hypothesis, obviously. (Still cool tho) |
