Slugs inbound! Slugs are wonderful little creatures who come in all different shapes, colours and sizes beyond those common garden slugs that are apparent around the world. Innocuous in nature and rather adorable in looks, it's rather sad to see these gastropods get the bad rep that they definitely don't deserve. ![]() Triboniophorus aff. graeffei Australian pink slug These bizarre slugs live exclusively on Mount Kuputar in what's know as a sky island, an isolated ecozone known for their unique flora and fauna. They live under plant matter and the roots of trees, and emerge on cool misty mornings to eat algae and moss. ![]() Ariolimax californicus Banana slug The starkingly bright yellow colour is how these slugs earned their name. Banana slugs live in redwood and temperate coniferous rainforests in North America primarily. The mucus they secrete has a mouth numbing anesthetic agent to deter predators. ![]() Bielzia coerulans Carpathian blue slug Blue and beautiful, the Carpathian blue slug is endemic to the Carpathian mountains located in Eastern Europe. Juveniles take on a more subtle hue of colours, from green, yellow and brown. Adult Carpathian blue slugs usually die after egg disposition. ![]() Arion ater Common/Brown/Black slug This particular slug probably needs no introduction, found throughout most of the world either as a native or invasive species. Their ravenous ability to detroy crops has earned them a spot on many-a-countries quarantine significance list. The go-to look when one imagines a slug. ![]() Arion rufus European red slug Once treated as a subspecies of Arion ater in the past, the European red slug is nearly indentical to the aforementioned slug bar molecular analysis and internal dissection. Often appearing in a range of colours, from red, orange and a rusty brown, this particular slug is common in urban gardens. ![]() Selenochlamys ysbryda Ghost slug Named for their nocturnal habits and sickly appearence, the Ghost slug is a blind, burrowing carnivorous slug that preys on other slugs, smaller insects and earthworms. The species was first found in Wales, and subsequently - and natively - found in the Crimean mountains. It was given the name 'ysbryd', meaning ghost in Welsh, to allude to it's rarity, colour and nightly practices. This is the first record of a species name being taken from the Welsh language. ![]() Limax maximus Leopard slug Belonging to the family of some of the largest slugs in the world, the Leopard slug is considered another invasive species, as it has accidently been introduced to other parts of the world. Their colouration is often a variable grey, with their markings being quite random per individual specimen. ![]() Ibycus rachelae Long-tailed slug Also known as the Ninja slug due to their ability to fire 'love darts' from their tail, the Long-tailed slug is a semi-slug that inhabits Borneo in the state of Sabah, where it lives in mountain ranges and along coasts. Due to their rarity and the hapless deforestation of their home state, measures have been put out to protect the montane forests where they live, as many rare species are hoped to be preserved, and some are still yet to be discovered.
NOTES These slugs are rather slow and tend to idle a lot. They don't do anything other than move and eat, so you don't have to worry about them dying of thirst or going beserk because they didn't get enough exercise. Speaking of eating, they seem to congregate around food piles a lot, even when their hunger is at a very slow decay rate. I would recommend using treats like apples and carrots (and I recommend Ulquiorra's dead rat enrichment for the Ghost slug) instead of a pile of food as that encourages them to move around more and not camp inside food where you'll barely see them. Just like real slugs and snails when it comes to someone prized vegetables XD Also, about the breeding, just as well they can't breed, ZT2 doesn't have a hermaphrodite option when selecting an animals gender. |

Nice slugs (models, skins), but not for me, their behavior is unrealistic because of the game itself. Is it possible to create new "genders" or they are hardcoded in the ZT2 engine? |

Unfortunately I think it's hard coded, or if it is doable, I wouldn't be able to make it happen. You can have animals that only have one gender, but I think making a hermaphrodite option would need all sorts of coding to be doable.
Definitely looking for some sea slugs! Hoping to make a pack at some point. |

These kind of jokes make the 'banning' button itch when I'm on the ACP. Seriously though, great job on the slugs, Serps! They're so beautiful and colourful

Slugs are disgusting. These are pretty cool though, so you get a free pass for bringing a creature that horrifies me to ZT2. |

@Serpyderpy: Thanks for your reply. Slugs like fruit and veggies. Any new kinds of food for herbivores planned? |

If we are talking about slugs why not snail. I love the ones with the colorful shells. We just have the plain brown snails where I live at. |

I did try and import some small veggie slices but it messed up royally, think I need to study food and what not a bit more before I just rush into it. I am rather adamant about getting some small food portion in-game, though! Thinking along the lines of sweet potato, carrots, maybe some apple slices, mango, stuff like that.
There maaaaay be a snail pack in progress as we speak. |
