And just...why couldn't they just keep Patagotitan away in a larger room? And not take Sue's location away? ![]() ![]()

I don't want to sound mean but that seems like a very subjective statement. I do think that there might be somethings that could be revised about the new skeletal (probably the placement of the arms and the direction of the ribs). But just critizising it because it doesn't look "good" in your eyes is simplistic and maybe even a little insulting considering that the updated posture is the result of ongoing research by professional Paleontologists who might had been working on it for years. It's not like plump Tyrannosaurids had no precedent: ![]() ![]() Again sorry if the post comes off a little abrassive, it's really not my intent here. Edited by babehunter1324, Sep 3 2017, 05:06 AM.

The problem with that restoration is that the shoulders are completely dislocated, the arms are even smaller than they should be, the gastralia (as a result from the pectoral girdle being out of place) are awkwardly shaped, and its legs look strained and imbalanced. It's far more than just being plump. The whole thing looks so unnatural, even compared to old school takes on the genus. Luckily, Hartman has said the skeleton in the pic is getting updated again anyway. It's not the final result yet, it seems. |

The actual curator overseeing the reinstallation, Pete Makovicky, has explained in detail that these are just promotional concept art and aside from the properly placed gastralia don't represent the actual mount at all. |

As someone who goes to the museum fairly often I can assure you there is absolutely no other place they could put a Patagotitan. Even Evolving Planet is only really big enough for an Apatosaurus and that still has its tail dragging mount. From what I can tell and from what I've heard from insiders the move is also to give Sue more context as there was only so much information they could put around her. With her new hall adjacent to Evolving Planet she'll be with other Hell Creek fauna and flora to hopefully better educate the public. One last thing I'd like to bring up is the main hall has always had its dinosaurs switched around. Before Sue, there was the Brachiosaurus and the Daspletosaurus. There was even a Mamenchisaurus mount for a good bit. TL;DR Yes Sue will be getting her own exhibit and its nothing new for the Field Museum Edited by Paleodude, Sep 5 2017, 05:34 PM.

Not gonna lie, that concept art makes Sue look like a bloated dead rat... The idea of a chubby rex is neat, but that art doesn't give it much justice lol On the other hand, I'm a little disappointed that Sue is moving, but at least they'll be able to give a little more context to Sue and educate people better with a much-needed update. I'll still have to get used to seeing a Titanosaur instead of Sue, but it'll be an interesting change at least. |
