Food Pile Vs Food Dish?

Which contains more food? I know the food dish is more expensive which would imply it probably holds more, but the model has significantly less food in it than the piles do, which made me always assume when I was younger they had less food. Do they have less food? do they have more? Is it the same, and, if so, what about the food troughs?

Amount of food: Food Bowls < Food Piles < Food Troughs
Cost: Food Piles < Food Bowls < Food Troughs

I think the food bowls are just more expensive because its cheaper to dump a pile of food on the ground than to buy a metal bowl and dump your food in that.
