Pretty sure plenty of people still play this game. I play the game to test mods every now and then.

I still play!

At least once a year I get an itch to play ZT2 or even ZT1
Last year I found a copy of Zoo Tycoon 1: Complete Collection at a local Thrift store and played it for days! I hadn't been able to play it since my daycare days when I was 6 because I never got the original game because ZT2 was coming out and the stores didn't have the original game anymore.

Right now actually I'm into playing it and looking at the community here. I'm amazed at how far the modding community has come....

I remember being on ZTV (it was the first forum I ever joined) and looking at all the mods to add which at the time were usually just recoloured versions of vanilla animals and coding.... I even remember being excited for new stuff from Tamra Henson as I became a huge fan since her downloads were 99% of the time stable, didn't have bugs, and (for the time) very high quality.

Now a days people are not just reskinning old models but making their own and even making new animations and life stages! Even a project to remake the game (Radical Remake) has come out and is being worked on (at least I hope still)!

If you told me that any of that would be possible when I first started joining the community I would've probably not believe you.... or it would've blown my little kid mind!

I love this game and always will... heck I even got my sister who's 10 years older then me to play it for awhile.

I'm 20 and still play, since I was 10 or 11 ish. I'm more active over the summer months
my biggest issue is finding more things to do, what are some ideas you do on zt2?
Sorry, I just now saw your reply! For each person it is different I suppose, but what keeps me entertained is finding real life inspiration and using that to build my zoos. I am more of a "live animal" zoo maker, (rather than extinct or fantasy) so it is rather easy for me to find inspiration for that when it comes to making exhibits. I look at zoo websites and their pictures to get inspiration. When i start a zoo i think of a general theme (Florida, Africa, Australia, etc.) and work from there. A branch of zoo tycoon i'm really interested in at the moment is the architecture. I like looking at non zoo buildings (like fancy resort buildings and stuff like that) and try to remake those in game, and try to associate that architecture with my theme. Sometimes i'm unsuccessful (many times) but the times that I make something really worthwhile make up for that. The game is an outlet for creativity. Don't just copy other zoo tycooners (though they are useful for inspiration!!!) but see if you can do something with what you've got (the downloads) to make something that hasn't been made before (for example, check out the tutorial pages where i show how to make bbq grills, campfires, and water parks using pre existing objects). Just put things together and see what happens!

I usually play it for a few months, then take a break for a few months. Keeps it fresh when it comes to building exhibits and trying unique things.

Like above i will usually play for a few weeks pretty intensely, then drop off for a while and pick it back up again. I don't play any other games but this and Sims 3, so i usually rotate between the two of them.

I didn't play for years and just got back into it for that good old childhood nostalgia -- but I'm hooked after adding mods to improve the graphics and interface!
