Early Sirenians are so freaking weird.

Their body isn't all that different from that of modern Sirenians, and then you notice the stump hippo legs, it's like having an animal with a Dorudon like skeleton but functional terrestrial locomotion capable limbs.

No good hero is a one-trick phony.

The tail honestly reminds me of something you'd see on a dinosaur, obviously it had to get to the point where it can propel an animal the size of a sirenian but it's still weird to see on a species with legs

This so much. It's like someone just took a modern manatee and glued some little legs to the underside. They look like unholy beasts straight out of Impossible Creatures.

Isn't that literally Protocetidae in a nutshell?

Yes, but modern whale skeletons don't look much like Protocetids.

Meanwhile basal sirenians are actually extremelly similar in anatomy to modern Sirenians, just... With legs.

You can see diferences yes... But compare them to difference between basal whales and modern ones, it is quite jarring.

Okay, that's creepy levels of similar compared to protocetids.

I love it.
