Birds as a clade are dinosaurs though ![]() I don't really understand what you mean by 'status' since I think it's quite obvious not all dinosaurs are birds. I think Stargate was referring to paraves and related clades rather than all of dinosauria, because clearly there's a difference between a Stegosaurus and a sparrow ![]() Edit: So in the time it took to post this... there's already been a 4 or 5 post discussion. Thanks laggy internet!!

so your reasons are; -they don't look enough like birds -they appeared before birds my evidence is -they don't appear like any modern reptile either -warm blooded -feathers -hollow bones -the naming system doesn't work that way, so the fact birds appeared later is irrelevant since they were classified first I'm not saying they are birds, I'm saying they are all (every clade) closer to birds than to "conventional reptiles" I see no reason to move this since I think its over Edited by stargatedalek, Jul 15 2014, 11:19 AM.

I was trying to say what Okeanos said basically. And i agree they are close to birds, but not all of them were. And birds were named before because people didn't discovered the dinosaurs until much later than they discover birds (which was from the beginning of mankind basically). Just because they were named before doesn't mean that dinosaurs (all dinosaurs) were birds or should be classified as that. Like Okeanos said (and i was trying to point out) just a branch of dinosaurs were the ones to give origin to birds and the ones that came after coming from the same branch are the ones more related to them. The rest are just dinosaurs. They are indeed transitional animals between birds and reptiles, but they weren't birds. And another thing, acording to what i read recently, they weren't neither cold or warmblooded but something in between. And like Okeanos (and myself) said this discussion should be moved to the paleontology section
