If anyone is looking for inspiration I discovered Google Earth is great. You can easily get a birds eye view of pretty much any zoo, and see foliage placement, types, and terrain details.

Actually, in most of European Zoos (Barcelona, Madrid, London) you can see in street view everything... I was seeing it yesterday for inspiration, it's really great! You can see even the signs!!

Great work Ommenor... Bisons are a great option, but some elands and zebras may be good too!

DTF, great work in the bear enclosure, I like it alot as I like the foliage too... I was thing in the South part of Michigan, like, the city I'm planning, Southfield ;)

I did this exhibit just for fun, but I may start a zoo from it because I quite like the foliage... I tried to follow your, DTF, foliage combination guide, it didn't turned well as I think though. It's entrance and key deer ;) Dp this look like Michigan?

This is a little too scrubby to be Michigan for me. I would not recommend using the Golden Conebush as there isn't really anything that looks remotely like it here. Other than that the snake plant is a little iffy as well but more passable than the conebush. I like the use of the bushes though that is great. I would also maybe add in one or two more leafy trees like the Trembling Aspen/Beech/Alder/Birch/Maple because trees like that are the most common here. Overall it looks good but just too much like a warm-weather climate to be Michigan.

I am currently shuffling ideas about a new zoo, and have one that I am in the middle of creating, but I keep getting such on one decision. Should I group sections of the zoo by Continent, such as North America toward the front, and have animals from that continent and then South American animals and so forth, or should it be completely random?

Also, Should I make my entire zoo out of the same color fences and material/s, or should I switch it up a bit for different sections?

One more thing, is there any method you guys use when deciding what animals to include?

Well the first thing depens entirely on what you prefer. I usually build zoos that have a particular theme, and generally that theme is some country or region of the world. I think dividing the zoo into different sections is useful for the planning. The once you know your zoo sections and how much space will each section requires you can select the animals. If you are doing it for a S&T only then variation in the selection of the species is a good thing to do so you can design different kinds of exhibits and every exhibit will look different acording to the animal that live there. If you are going to build it for playing then i'll say you select among your favorite animals and the ones you are going to have the most fun playing with.

And if you do the different section thing, i think changing the fences from section to section is a good idea, but you need to have a base set, so people can feel that every section is still part of the same zoo. That should be done with the landscaping foliage too.
