Not to mention the snake can be stressed by the animal walking on it and try to bite. |

I always thought snakes make the beauty of the exhibit on their own. Putting aside the danger for them and their roomates, if you add other animals with them, they just look sluggish and boring. Alone or with a mate of the same specie, they shine, captivating me with their natural behavior. Only exception Ive seen was an Emerald boa living alongside Poison dart frogs and geckos. The boa being primary a small mammals and birds specialist, it wasnt a big threat to the other animals in the vivarrium. |

I've started to build an aviary, and I'm going to add some tropical birds. But i'm not to sure about what foliage combo would be best. I'm also struggling to find inspiration for this exhibit. Here's a pic of what I have so far:

Most indoor tropical aviaries i seen could be divided into 2 types : - (1) focus on the birds (less ground foliage and bushes, some even in plants pots, few trees, more branches and open spaces to let the guests easily see the birds, generally big bird species or destructive ones (parrots), little or no water area, generally only à pathway in the middle of the exhibit, etc.) ; - (2) focus on the habitat (lot of foliage including ground plants, bushes and trees, à pond or little marsh, different view areas for the guests (ground pathway, elevated path, etc.), many different types of birds, also the aviary can be based on a specific location, ex. Congo rainforest, Amazonian rainforest, Australian bush, etc.). Maybe im not 100% answering your question, but i hope it Will help your reflexion.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

no ideas in the animal encyclopedia or google images??? what I know about wombats is that they love digging and are noctural animals so I would give them enough to dig in and some kind of shelter so they can hide during the daytime. |
