There are lots of animals you could include in an African nocturnal house. Zoos tend to house nocturnal mammals rather than other species because they are more active. :)
Here are some ideas:
- Aye-Aye
- Potto
- Fennec/cape fox/bat-eared fox
- Aardvark
- Eastern Springhaas (Western is not in captivity atm)
- Galago
- Narrow-striped boky
- Fanaloka
- Fossa
- Cusimanse
- Fruit bat
- Porcupine
- Hedgehog
- Genet

Don't forget multiple species of snakes (rock python, for example), an maybe multiple species of crocodylinae. As long as they have a basking spot outdoors.

I never really ever built anything for this animal but how should I make a palm civet exhibit?

Masked, Owston's, and African Palm Civets require a "base" enclosure of a night/nocturnal type habitat, with with intense dark cycles to keep them happy. I'd keep African Palm Civets less on-exhibit, or otherwise give them more privacy.

So I'm starting to contemplate how I'm going to layout the rest of MFAS... It's been discussed that the zoo mirrors My Zoo 2 on Facebook, and they have the following sections set up (in spoiler tags because it's long):

Spoiler: click to toggle

I'm planning on keeping this section pretty much as-is. Currently, I want a "Tropical Skies" aviary for the birds that fall under the wider umbrella of "tropical rainforest." I figure they'll need an almost exclusively indoor exhibit (maybe with some outdoor, off-exhibit flight cages for the summer?) as this zoo is located in the American Pacific Northwest (Washington). This will be the largest of the aviaries, and will feature a walk-thru with ID guides to help guests spot specific species.

For the New World Aviaries, I'm thinking of housing the Elegant Crested Tinamou and Florida Scrub Jays together (with an indoor/outdoor exhibit), with neighboring separate aviaries for the Seriemas, and Hummingbirds.

Next would be the European Aviaries. I'd like to house the European Robins and European Turtle Doves together, but I don't know if (IRL) the robins would be aggressive to the doves? I'm also going to group the Bald Ibises here, even though they're also found in the Middle East, as I believe the largest breeding programs are in Spain. I have a good idea of what I want to do with their exhibit, I'm just not sure I have the content to build what I want. We'll see.

Oceania Aviaries would be another fairly large walk-thru indoor/outdoor aviary (to be sealed up during winter). I think all of the species I want for this section can be safely housed together. I'm not sure how aggressive kookaburras are, so maybe they'll need their own space...

Then Asian Aviaries, with the tragopans and bustards together (again, not sure if either species is aggressive...), and the kingfishers in a separate, neighboring aviary.

Last would be the African Aviary. I think I should be able to keep the hornbills and rollers together. This would be an indoor/outdoor aviary, with the outdoor portion closed up during the winter.

"Birds of the World"
Spoiler: click to toggle

My real quandry comes with planning the rest of the zoo. The way My Zoo 2 has it set up, you basically have really specific categories and I'm not sure if I want to structure the whole zoo that way. For example, there is a zoo section for Great Cats, Small Cats, Megafauna, Waders & Shorebirds, etc., etc. I can see splitting off the "Small Reptiles" section into a Reptile house, but I'm not sure I want an entire section of the park JUST housing "Large Reptiles." I'd kind of rather do what most zoos do, and have animals spread out around the park (i.e. not necessarily having a 100 acre area just for every species of crocodilian).

So yeah... my question... do I stick to re-creating My Zoo 2 in Zoo Tycoon 2, adhering to how the facebook game has set up their virtual zoo structure? or do I reorganize the My Zoo 2 species list in a more "realistic" way that would probably work better for a real zoo?

Thoughts?

Nice idea, the only one I don't see working is the Florida Scrub Jay and Tinamou, they'll take small birds (babies) and Scrub Jays live in complicated familial groups that'd work best if separated from other species.

Noted, I'll make sure they're split up. Thanks for the warning! xD

Really you have it perfect, I just know that about the jays because they're one of our "main" bird species (Well, it's the Western Scrub Jay, but whatever). I've also personally seen them take chicks and young guineafowl :(

Does anyone have suggestions for bird species that I could use in a Southeast Asian rainforest aviary? Thanks in advance.
