Thank you BBBurns. Would hornbills be able to mix with other species or would I have to give them a separate exhibit?

Separate would be best.

Does anyone know which subspecies of lion are usually kept in zoos? (Or are they typically mixes?) Thanks! :)

In most Zoos that I know of, they are almost all hybrids of one another, because people didn't know their were different subspecies before they caught them and put them in zoos and circuses, causing hybridization. ;)

Well layouts of zoo's are always so hard to plan! Taronga zoo is my focus Inspiration for my zoo I am showcasing and unlike most people, I don't fully build the zoo before displaying as I like letting the viewers say what they want to see in my zoo! So I need a good layout (It is an Extra Large map) anyone got ideas?

Bears. Because bears.
A Louisiana bayou elevated platform across the swamp with 'coons, egrets, gators, maybe black bears, snapping turtles, catfish, snakes, feral hogs, otters, and beavers. :D

Does anyone know if there are indoor exhibits for ducks and freshwater birds like this one (using penguins as an example) ?

Here is an Indoor duck exhibit I have visited once although I couldn't get the full size picture as it is just the ducks pond! I would say use that penguins design for maybe fairy penguins or Small cranes like an Australian crane, the Sarus crane!

I have sadly not seen one. I think it is because of minimal care or more simple exhibit designs that work better for most freshwater species. The Toledo Zoo's ruddy duck exhibit (and some other duck species) is very similar to a penguin exhibit, but outdoors.

Wait, now that I think about it, I HAVE seen an indoor thing with ducks - they were saltwater ducks, but still ducks (Bufflehead). Monterey Bay Aquarium's aviary has them along with a bunch of shorebirds and such.

If done correctly it should work, just gotta make sure the animals won't be stressed by lights and such (MBA's is natural-lit and I believe has chainlink/mesh on one side? Been a bit)

Well I was thinking about doing something like that penguin exhibit, but housing freshwater ducks and other waterfowls from Europe.
Although I'd probably end up with something more spartan like the classic outdoor pond.

I think it'd work, though I wouldn't use puddle ducks (Mallard, Wigeon, Teals), instead use diver ducks (pochard, scaups, scoters, mergansers). All indoor waterbird habitats I've seen have had more aquatic species, such as guillemots, puffins, penguins, and things like that.

Of course MBA's habitat also had lots of shorebird species but again, I believe a part of it is meshed/linked.

The plan was to have both surface dwelling ducks AND diving birds like grebes (maybe cormorants but I'm hesitating due to them potentially eating ducklings), along with common carp (too large to be eaten by grebes).

Grebes would definitely work, and cormorants definitely wouldn't work. I'd stay away from puddle ducks, again... but common carp would work just fine.
