I think stone/concrete fences and walls lend themselves really well to green fencing like that. Maybe give that a shot?

So far these are all the options I could think of, which one do you think looks best ?

Otherwise, could I try to use the green chainlink for the whole perimetre ?

I actually like that wood cable fence with it quite a bit, and the cobblestone building set second best. Completely up to you though. :)

More experimentation:

I think it's a good idea to add cold climate animals to a zoo n that is seemingly in the tropics. Bison are temperate/cold climate animals that can live in the average tropical zoo as long as they're managed properly. For the cold weather animals, you would need these to keep them happy and healthy:
Ice blocks with treats
Indoor shelters
Shade canopy with potential fans hanging on it
A pool with a cool water filtration system
A Mud wallow for pachyderms, equids, and bovines
Many shade trees
Potentially a waterfall or two
And even fans on the ground/built into the rocks.

Elasmotherium lived in much colder area than the average modern bison tho.
I do agree with giving it lots of ways to avoid heat. And perhaps give it a more barren exhibit, since it would likely traple or eat everything.

Oh absolutely, and this isn't an actual exhibit. Just trying to get a taste for the foliage style, really. I may do some kind of indoor ecosystem for cold-dwelling extinct mammals.

I agree with Furka for the Temperature but for the exhibit design. Oh My God :o That's Amazing just put on it if you want any tropical animals and that's will be like a real zoo exhibt.

Guys, is it alright if I mix Gemsbok with Demoiselle Cranes? I know that geographically it makes no sense, but like, species wise I should have no issues, right? And considering it's a small zoo with not many funds and stuff…

Ya, just as long as the cranes can get away from the gemsbok to reduce any stress that could occur.

Hi guys,

Im currently working on a new zoo and I have been struggling with the foliage. I find it currently to monotone.

Currently:

So I start to experiment with some new foliage I've downloaded.

With some "new" foliage:

What do you guys think? Or do you maybe have other suggestions? I personally find it still too green but can't find a good tree/bush/flower with color which fits in.

The zoo is located in a (Dutch) "forest area" so I think the new foliage do make it more realistic.

Maybe try and cut down on the birch trees, and use something else.

I think you've used too many bushes. I would space them out a bit more. It would be more natural.

Still regarding the savannah area I'm building, does anyone have some tips for the animals indoor areas ?
Should I make a single building separated into sections for each species (planned ones are ostrich, giraffe, zebra and perhaps some kind of gazelle in the future) or is it better to have different buildings scattered along the exhibit perimeter ?
Also, what would be a design that's simple (not a state of the art thing) and yet functional at the same time ? (like allowing separation of specific animals)
Tips on a suggested size would be appreciated too :)

@Furka

A common way to build a Savannah indoor area is to make one building in the middle/side
with the exhibit around it. You can also make it so guest can walk on it and see the animals
from the building. This way is it possible to have some other options like:
- watching in the indoor area
- the guests can feed the giraffes
-...

The size varies from zoo to zoo. If it is city zoo, I would make it rather small and compact.
But if it is a large zoo, you can make it big with some extra indoor exhibits. There are two
handy ways to separate animals:
- Snowleo's animal gates
- for smaller animals can you use tankwalls: you can open and close them very easly.

So an elevated viewing area can also be used as indoor area ? That could work for smaller ungulates like zebras, although I'd still need a separate one for the giraffes.
Considering I don't plan to make the indoor areas accessible to the public, would it be fine to just have an empty space with some smaller stables connected to it ?
As for the bird in the exhibit (ostrich, guineafowl and maybe cranes too), would it be fine to just dump them in the same indoor area ?
