You'd have to find a good and realistic reason to keep them. |

'In April 2007, a 4.08 m (13.4 ft) juvenile female minke whale died from domoic acid poisoning by ingesting northern anchovies – a known domoic acid vector – during an intense Pseudo-nitzschia bloom off Southern California.' Was thinking about something along these lines - mass deaths in the area due to poisoning, so to save the animals we housed them in our former orca-exhibit? |

If they can keep a subadult Gray Whale, they can keep a Minke. |

Relatively small, concrete or sand floor and water and for fences either concrete or heavy iron bars. Something like these pics: http://www.historisch-emmen.nl/centrum/hoofdstraat/dierenpark/dp1946-1950_winston.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/12/26/article-2529589-18765D8500000578-109_964x639.jpg Either way, none I found had an underwater view and very few had more than one hippo (and that was mostly because the exhibit was upgraded later on) |

Pistoia's zoo Hippo exhibit is basically like that even today (small concrete pool, dirt and an indoor area) and they keep two hippos in there (even three when they had a calf). |

Thank you all Will go for a small inside exhibit without outside exhibit.Must say I like the exhibit the have in the Calgary zoo when you look to modern "combined" exhibits. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The back can be closed so the indoor exhibits are closed of (as you can see in the pictures). In the second picture you see on the right a possibility for the Hippopotamus to get outside. |

Daamnnn I hate the fact that the zoo was half-flooded when I was visiting Calgary. Sucks because I'll probably never get the chance to visit it again. |

The flooding was horrible there. Luckily I went before that. On the bad side I cam a year before the penguins. It's pretty cool how the zoo is split by a river though. |

![]() I'm currently working on a new zoo, one which I wan't to build in one map in stead of using more maps. The first section is Southern American and is almost finished (only need to add some foliage around the exhibits and finishing one exhibit). Now I'm doubting on how to go further and what I should do with this zoo. I don't want a very big African section, maybe just three exhibits (Zebra duikers, Western lowland gorillas and Eastern Bongos). So I was thinking of maybe using the space left of the Southern American section for an European section (Eurasian wolf, Eurasian brown bear, Wisent) which goes over into a Chinese section (South China tiger, Pangolin, Reeves's muntjac, Golden takin). And then using the last more than 50% for an Asian/African boat safari with Zebra duikers, Western lowland gorillas and Eastern Bongos for Africa and Borneo elephants, Lowland anoas, Visayan spotted deer, Sumatran rhinoceros, Blackbucks, Buru babirusa, Nilgais and Siamangs for Asia. What do you guys think? |

Does anyone have some tips for an elephant exhibit? I've already started building one, but I don't know how big it needs to be and how big the indoor area has to be. Thank you in advance! |
