It's way too coniferous tbh. But with the ridiculous lack of good deciduous trees, it'll do. You could also use it for like literally anywhere in the northern US though.

Trying to make a large zoo based in the Northeastern US (probably either Vermont or Maine). Lacking inspiration, though.... Any tips for a rookie? |

There's a wildlife park in upstate New York (around 1000 islands)that would be good. I don't remember the name but if you did some research I bet you could find it and use it as inspiration. EDIT: found it. It's called the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park Edited by Burns, Jan 17 2016, 04:50 PM.

Thanks for the idea regarding local species. Sure, the zoo map will hypothetically be located somewhere in the Northeastern US (whichever state has the fewest zoos/aquariums in real life), and would likely feature a wide variety of species from across that have been known to cope with all sorts of unpredictable weather that the region is prone to. Edit: Coming up with a list of potential species..... Edited by Guilmon, Jan 17 2016, 09:26 PM.

How many fish can I put in a school? I don't want my game to lag out, but I want quite a few. (We're talking red-bellied piranhas here) Edited by Viridian450, Jan 21 2016, 10:39 PM.

It depends on how big the tank is, but it's usually suggested to keep no less than 4 of them (this is for small house tanks tho, given how big aquariums are in ZT2 you should go with a higher number). |

Go with "bread-and-butter" species to start. Birds : common pheasants, partridges, peafowls ; ducks and geese, swans ; macaws, amazones, budgies and other common parrots ; common starlings and corvidae species ; African Sacred Ibis and other hardy ibises and herons ; most ratites ; sometimes, rescued birds from the area where you zoo is located... Primates : Olive Baboon, squirrel monkeys, Japanese Macaque, White-headed Capuchin, Ring-tailed Lemur... Birds to avoid : "softbills" such as turacos, hornbills, toucans and such ; flamingoes, jabirus and other high-maintenance or colonial long-legged wading birds ; specialists parrots species, such as kakapos and some lories ; birds of prey (except rescued ones) ; cassowaries and kiwis ; penguins... Primates to avoid : apes ; specialist or delicate species, such as Golden Snub-nosed Monkey or Bamboo lemurs ; night monkeys ; tarsiers ; galagos... |

Thanks. Could Patas Monkeys, Allen's Swamp Monkeys, Virginia Opossums, and Raccoons be realistic animals for a starting zoo in Southern California?

First, 3th and 4th, certainly. Couldn't say for the second species, since I never saw it in zoo! However, I think its common in captivity and does not have major issues. I would say go for it!

Thanks for the help. I'll place only the 1st, 3rd, and 4th species into the species list.

Changed my mind from making a zoo in the Northeast, and instead building it in Oregon. Any recommendations for various species to begin? |
