I need some ideas on what to do. How would you go about creating a pretty, natural cover for the cliff-textures? It's for my Hippopotamus exhibit, so I want to keep the guests safe from them whilst still having no glass or iron bars between them and the animals. Image Anyone have any ideas, apart from using rocks? Because most rocks are too big and obstruct the view, but clustering hundreds of small rocks together crashes my pc halfway through placing them because it's quite a large exhibit lol Edited by Lucoshi, Jan 22 2017, 03:33 PM.

You can always make the ground level of the exhibit the same as the guests and then add a ditch or add a ditch without changing the ground levels. But you sure of the rocks? The rocks I'm using for this are not making my game crash (and believe my game has crashed a lot). I've placed a picture below. It are quit some rocks but I ain't got no problem with them. I have it though with some rock packs, but not with this one. Example You could also go for a few big rocks combined with small rocks. Creating a few main viewing points. Or a few big rocks and then logs/branches in between. Edited by KoenZoo, Jan 22 2017, 04:09 PM.

Yeah, those are the rocks I use as well, but taking the smallest pillar-rock and covering the entire border of the exhibit with them caused it to crash when getting too crazy (and it looked dreadful). I think I will indeed just cover most parts with larger rocks, and then use smaller ones, together with logs and shrubs, at the viewing points. Thanks for the input! |

Lucoshi Hippos are my favourite animal and I have spent a number of years actively researching and studying them in zoos. I have a number of ideas that may or may not help you, but it's just some things that might spark some inspiration with you.. Firstly based on the image of your exhibit it appears you are going for the hippo pool in a pit with the guests overlooking it. This is a common approach in many zoos that I have discovered and there seems to be quite a trend in terms of how the deploy safety with this design. The first without using rocks is to include a small space of additional land behind the viewing fence before the drop, in game this could be 'one fence' width or smaller by using the flatten tool. This would provide an area to land before going near the pool whereby if something or in worst case someone fell over. This design is shown in these photos from Oregon zoo, Philadelphia zoo and Topeka zoo respectively: ![]() ![]() ![]() Another, slightly more unorthodox method you could use would be to raise the pool up in order to form a moat that would be inaccessible to hippos due to its small size and steepness, this design is shown below although I can't recall what zoo I have saved this image from unfortunately: ![]() Another method could be to include a barrier in the water that the hippos couldn't cross, thus creating an area of 'safe' water before the exhibit (using the word 'safe' in its lightest possible terms). Although I do not have an example directly showing this for hippos, you can get the idea from the black rhino exhibit at DAK as shown and an attention way to achieve it could be through logs like those displayed at ZOOM erliebniswelt: ![]() ![]() Another could be by using Sophie's recently released slanted avairy roofs to make a catchment net under the viewing area as displayed in Dublin zoo although I have no picture. And finally the best hippo exhibit I have ever seen seems simply to use just wooden poles sticking out from the viewing deck. If you need any hippo inspiration please check out the exhibits at Werribe in Australia, best hippo exhibit ever in my opinion: ![]() Hope this helps to some degree ![]() |

I want to make a walk through aviary where the guests can interact with the animals. Is there anyway I can accomplish this without the birds escaping through the exits? |

I like to be quite particular about my zoos, and one area that personally bugs me is the use of glass fences when exhibiting pachyderms. I am currently in the process of writing up a pachyderm guide for zt2, much like Sophie's cetacean guide she wrote back in the Gaia days. it will include info and ideas on the best and most realistic ways to exhibit elephants, rhinos and hippos. However I do not know when it will be ready or when I will share it. Anyway despite that and getting back to my original point on the glass fences, I wan to share with you all two ideas for viewing in a rhino house. I will use one idea in my new park and would very much like your opinions on which you prefer and which one you think I should include, A or B. Here they are: 'A' ![]() 'B' ![]() |

I need some help, as my lack of knowledge in fish is absolutely terrible. I need a list of fish species I could put into this aquarium I have in a new building of my zoo. It's rather large, 3x5 or something, so a large collection is plausible. I'd appreciate if someone could help me out (or would just give me a list with exact numbers of each species, which I'll then just buy from the RTZI bank). Downside is, it's a Nile-themed building, so I plan to only put freshwater fish (native to the Nile River) in there. Thank you!

Bhutan: I personally prefer B, it has a more pleasant natural look. Lucoshi: issue is, we have a tremendous lack of African freshwater fishes, and the ones we have would be hard to impossible to combine. The only ones I can think of rn from the Nile are the bichir (which however would need a shallower tank than yours) and the Blue tilapia from African Mystics (it is called Nile Perch for some reason). And while we don't have an actual Nile Perch, you could use the Barramundi and pretend it's a Nile Perch, since they are very similar. |

Bhutan: 'B' is the best as it looks more natural. |

Haha I prefer A because I think the rocks behind the window look a bit strange and the ''plain'' fence in A is more realistic. |

And I'm going to break the tie ![]() I prefer B since the fences aren't that dominant. |

Any ideas/inspirations for a Siberian musk deer exhibit (except Berlin's, Leipzig's and Decin/Usti's exhibits) ? Edited by Zoo Tycooner FR, Feb 4 2017, 09:55 AM.
