@Jony : Praha's exhibit is neat imo (including indoor [Ratel house <3] and outdoor exhibits) , I don't know if there are photos on google though. Howlett's is good I guess. |

Hey! Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I've built a Nile Hippo exhibit for the first time (in order to add it to the "Heart Of Africa" section of my zoo) and I'm not really sure about it. First of all, I think it's too big just for three hippos and second, I'm not sure about the fencing I used in the indoor building. What you guys think? ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm also planning to build a new section for African desert animals or animals that live in arid zones of the African continent. Any ideas of what species should I use? |

I think it is amazing Iker! The indoor exhibit seems perfect, not too big or too small. I think the fences are okay. The fences are directly after the water section, so they really don't have a risk that they can't pull the wooden poles down. Though I think the ropes are risky. Maybe remove them and use more poles, so they can't go between them? The outside exhibit is maybe too big yes. Maybe include the Situngas you already have (with their own indoor exhibit) or Nile Lechwes? EDIT: I forgot to answer your final question. I think a mixed exhibit with Scimitar Oryx and Dama Gazelle would be nice, maybe with a little enclosure in front with African Spurred Tortoise. Fennec Fox are also nice! There's no such thing as an exhibit that is too big. It's absolutely amazing. Really love the combination of different ground textures, and as always; those patches of rocks and shrubs are beautiful. Also really love the sections of large logs in the outside fence. Can't wait to see the full update! I myself have been fiddling around with new foliage and buildingsets and I'm not quite sure what to think of it. I kinda hate it and love it at the same time. I guess it's just because I've been using the same 2 bushes as background foliage for over a year now so it takes some getting used to.

![]() I'm currently close to finishing my first zoo (a complete one I mean). It is being made on just one map, but with a lot of different sections and sometimes just a few species from one region. Here is the map key for the meaning of the colors: Yellow: Africa Orange: Australia Blue: South America Light Green: Asia Purple: Northern America Red: China As you can see I have a big black spot left in the map. But do you guys have any suggestions on what to do with it? The zoo is located in Europe (The Netherlands to be precise), but I don't want to add European species. I myself was thinking of Asian species or aquatic species (maybe even build a small aquarium complex). |

I'd say make a Eurasian area. Your Asian areas seem rather small, and Asia and Europe are full of creatures that could fill that area. |

I already have China (which is of course a part of Asia) and I don't want to use European species. |

I like the idea of a aquarium. Other suggestions would be - a terrarium (depends on how you added reptiles and amphibians to the regular sections), - a farm with domestic animals, - a bird show with a row of aviaries, - a themed area like: "the last of their kind" with species near to extinction, maybe in combination with breeding programm and education center; "Aliens on earth" with strange looking animals like naked mole-rat, okapi, gibbons, anteaters/aardvark...; "living fossils and evolution" with echidna, crocodiles(reptiles in general), hoatzin, sturgeons, also plants like the ginko... |

Thanks a lot for your ideas! Your themed area gave me an idea of looking outside continents. Okay the idea is about an old super continent, Gondwana. So combining animals from more continents. I was thinking of jungle species like Chimpanzees, Okapis, Indian Muntjacs, Indian Spotted Chevrotain and Eastern Bongos for now. And I would like to make mixed exhibit with for example Indian Spotted Chevrotains and Okapis. |

Yeah, a habitat/historical theme is also always worth consideration, especially for small zoos. I did one with a simple "deserts around the world" area. |

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area, but as a newb to realistic zoos can I ask about the biomes and vegetation you guys use? I have some realistic vegetation but not enough for a decent variety, and I'm not sure what ground types to use (obviously this depends on the climate but you get the idea). Bear in mind, because I have guests in my zoos and play it all in one map I have to use a reasonable amount of stuff so my game won't crash. I have a fondness for forested areas (wide open spaces freak me out a bit IRL too :c), if that helps.

It depends on where your zoo is located, still most people tend to use Grassland as the main biome, with others used in some specific exhibit (coastal or desert for sandy exhibits, or wetlands for marshes). Indoor exhibits are less troublesome because they are isolated, so you cna use different biomes in them. |

As Furka said it depends on the location. Anything can look nice however with the right foliage style and building sets, even using the dirt of one biome and the grass of another. Tropical, coastal, grassland and temperate seem to be the most popular. As for foliage, play around with them. The best foliage sets have a variety of heights and colours while still looking natural. There are plenty of zoos in the S & T section to give you inspiration. |
