Some of the things that have annoyed me lately: - Rainy, grey, cloudy, windy, depressing autumn weather - Puddles of rain water and mud everywhere, it seems - People who drink large amounts of alcohol and do stupid things as a result of that - People who seem to make anything an excuse to down lots of booze and who can't seem to have fun without - People who support the legalization of narcotics such as marijuana - like we don't have enough problems with alcohol and tobacco already... |

Agree with you about the alcohol. My half-friend jumped out a window. Mind you it was only a meter high but that is the dumbest thing I have ever herd. I don't even like alcohol. She is just attention seeking. |

To my knowledge, Tobacco and Alcohol don't have medical benefits when marijuana does. Hence why people are allowed to use it if they have a doctor's ok. Marijuana would be much better for alot of people rather than those chalk based pills they make you take which usually end up giving you more side effects than they do help you. |

I don't think people should smoke it as a street drug, though. |

That's up for personal debate, personally I don't see why it's illegal, marijuana can have bad effects on your lungs but not to the same extent as tobacco and you can also ingest it instead and bypass that, and the only major issues it brings are short-term memory and minor mental things but that's usually from smoking alot, on a daily basis over a long period of time. But smoking it once on the weekends or every other weekend wouldn't be tragic and you can't overdose and it effectively is just a stress reliever with medical benefits. |

Now, I don't really know anything about taking Marajuana, but if smoking it messes up your lungs can't you take it in another way? Like I've heard of people baking it into brownies and stuff |

Like the government already does with alcohol and tobacco. On one side, the government claims to be discouraging the use or to be promoting abstinence or moderation, but the other side, the government does make millions of it (in whatever currency you use), so it isn't actually in the interest of the government to decrease use, let alone rid society of it. I call that hypocritical.
I've heard a lot of stories about what people do when drunk, and it's very disheartening. Alcohol is especially harmful for young people, since their brains aren't yet fully developped. I know about the attention seeking aspect of it. My cousin, who is 18, has been really stone-drunk a number of times and a lot of it seems to be attention-seeking, "look-at-me-I'm-a-real-tough-guy" teenage rebellion.
Allowing marijuana for medical purposes gives the idea that it isn't so bad, that it isn't a harmful narcotic, or that it should be to an extent accepted. Hence why I think that is a very bad idea. Also, I call into question the purported medical benefits of marijuana, and wonder whether such affects could not be achieved by legally allowed and societally accepted methods of either conventional or alternative medicine. Also, if marijuana is legal for medical purposes, it has been shown that growth increases. Also, if it is increasingly (and legally) available, that may also increase recreational use. Even if it may have medical benefits, with the problems society already has with alcohol and tobacco, as well as the many negative things already associated with marijuana, I don't think we should want to accept it in society.
What's happening with the poaching or rhinos, elephants,... in Africa is truly horrific. And really, why? Because in some parts of the world they still believe animals parts in traditional medicine cure ailments for which medical science has long found relatively safe and available cures that actually work, while the traditional medicines at best work via the placebo effect in some people. Or because some newly wealthy people want to have decorative pieces made of parts of endangered species, while these pieces could also be made from other acceptable and available materials. It's gross. Also, the revenue from poaching is in some cases used to fund organized crime and terrorism, which makes it worse - not to mention a major hazard to safety in the world. You have some fine points there. I agree with you mostly. I think more testing should be done on the effects of it though. I have never thought of that aspect of elephant and rhino killing before. That's disturbing. |

If alcohol is legal, I do not understand why marijuana is not. If you're gonna ban one, ban the one that's actually dangerous, not the plant that gives you munchies.

It's sorta legal here (certain amounts of it that is) and I don't think we have a lot of trouble with it. It even seems alcohol is more of a problem, I've seen way more campaigns to warn teens for the risks of booze than for the risks of weed.

Maybe if we're lucky the African megafauna will rise up in revolt and start hunting the poachers. Then they could use their teeth and fingernails in traditional elephant medicines. But all humour aside, this truly is terrible. If so many elephants and rhinos can be killed so easily in such a short period of time, I'm honestly not so sure they have a shot on this Earth anymore. These species may well soon be hanging out in the sky with their buddies the dodo and the thylacine. But I haven't lost hope just yet. Elephants still have yet to reach the "Endangered" status, currently being listed only as "Threatened". It isn't looking as good for the rhinos, unfortunately. The southern white rhino is the only species left not listed as "Endangered" (the Indian rhino) or "Critically Endangered" (the other four species). Edited by CyborgIguana, Nov 19 2013, 11:14 AM.

I‘m not annoyed by people who drink too much (because then I‘d be annoyed by myself), but those who act stupid...ugh. I agree on your second point. On another note, FlemishLion, you do know the flag you have as an avatar is the one of Vlaams Belang, right? |
