not working on Spec Evo. also, when you join a RP about dinos, you choose a theropod as your character and want to play as a real animal, but then there's plenty of other players who just want battles ... |

Why don't you just flee instead? Most animal usually avoid fighting, unless it comes to something like mating purpose or protecting offsprings. |

Because the other players who think dinosaurs were ever-fighting monsters will still hunt you down and battle you anyway. Do they have any idea how rare fights actually are in nature. They are a stressful activity that animals generally avoid unless absolutely necessary. Especially annoying when it is a fight that would never occur in nature. Like a Troodon would have the balls to fight an adult Tyrannosaurus rex.

This kind of annoys me: a lack of RPs I'd really like to participate in. Since like... ever, each one ends up far from my ideal

Indeed. Back on topic, I am slightly annoyed that I seem to be one of the few members here who is a fan of TFIW, despite the fact that it is pretty much the father of Spec Evo. Sure, we have since come up with more realistic projects, but you still have to give it credit for initiating the idea of speculative evolution (the only Spec Evo before The Future is Wild were a few obscure books by Dougal Dixon). |

Being taught Biology wrong... Today in our lesson about 'Fossilisation and Speciation' we were taught that the Paleozoic era started 350 mya, the Mesozoic started 175 mya and the Cenozoic started 50 mya. 175 mya? So the Mesozoic era started in the Early/Middle Jurassic? lol soz triassic we don't need you anymore. I'm certain I'll be dead by the time this section of the syllabus is over ._. |

Schools don't know jack s**t about paleontology. Meanwhile, I have been taught that dinosaurs appeared 127 million years ago and died out 65 millions years ago (I think dinosaurs were around a LOT longer than 60 million years). Also that pterosaurs, or pterodactyls as my teacher of course calls them, were dinosaurs and herbivorous dinosaurs at that (that's right, herbivorous, he clearly watched too much TLBT as a kid. Why doesn't he go up to a giant, hungry azhdarchid and say that). Not just paleontology either, but science in general. The same teacher also, during another lesson, claimed that insects weren't animals, even insisting against my word! |

We didn't have such bull here. In fact, we didn't have anything at all about paleontology or animal biology except for the innards of the animals we had to dissect to study the internal organs. |

My sixth grade science teacher insisted and argued against me that turtles were amphibians (a "frog's closest cousin"), and that grizzly bears were herbivores. He gave one students "food chain pyramid" assignment thing a C, because he had the bear on top when it "was really an herbivore, not a carnivore". He said bears only eat berries. |

They should just let the students teach, they would do a much better job of it.

I'm so glad I had enough interest in these sort of subjects to self-teach myself over the years (I understood and accepted evolution by 6 years old, for example). Had I relied on my education system for my knowledge in biology, I wouldn't know ANYTHING. D: |
