The fact that the current generation seems largely to shun intelligence and favor ignorance. It's this kind of mindset that started the Dark Ages.
I wouldn't say this is true. The current young generation is statistically the most liberal and open-minded yet. Bigoted beliefs and attitudes fade out more and more with every new generation. Kids today are still the best educated generation yet, so just try to imagine people were actually even worse in the past, even if nobody noticed because everyone was really ignorant at the time and nobody was around to have a dissenting opinion. :P

The world is far from perfect but at least in the first world, it's actually improving - slowly but surely - with each year. 70 years ago would you expect to have an African American president in the United States or that we'd have gay marriage actually allowed (in some places, at least)? That we'd actually one day have zoos where the welfare of the animals is foremost, where the barren concrete cages are a thing of the past? Had we been going as we had been back then, we'd have virtually no forest left in this country, but we've had enough thought to save at least some, and the ecological consensus towards ecological preservation and green energy is slowly growing every year even with big oil trying its best to stop it. Indeed, much of the world still has a long way to go, and especially some of the old world (Uganda..) is apparently going backwards into the dark ages on some issues, but I really doubt this can last; look how Americans or Europeans were a few hundred years ago, burning witches and gay people as demons and clubbing the last great auk because they thought it was a witch. I find it likely even these troubled areas will /eventually/ come their senses as we have at least started to. Though in the "civilized" world, many people and kids are idiots, kids were always and probably will always be idiots. That's just how kids are, I think. None of us here are probably very "normal" kids/young adults. Statistically, we're still becoming less idiotic every generation. We just have to wait a bit longer for the process to finish. xD
One beautiful word: evolution. :D it's obvious it exists.

Thank you for the set, Azrael!

The last auk was found alone on a northern island, all of its companions killed for oil, and it was taken on a ship by some passing sailor idiots as a novelty back home, at which point it was tied to a post and given water so it wouldn't die. But then there was a big storm, and the sailors thought the strange flightless bird was actually a witch causing the storm, so they bludgeoned it to death.

As it turns out, sometimes it just rains, and auks have no say in the matter.

The first item on my time travel list will be to grab a giant theropod from the Mesozoic before taking it forward to just before the events you described took place. The ignorant sailors will have a much harder time bludgeoning this witch to death.

Mehh, since they're all deceased, I'm sure they're not living in paradise in Heaven.

Poor auk... I never know this before and this is really sad...

*Imagine the auk transforms into Kelenken.*

Anyway, I annoyed by the fact that I just ran out of my pencil lead....

Being open minded and liberal doesn't mean that they, for instance, pay one ounce in interest to things like the news, or have, what I call good moral ideas. I do agree that they will never be wise or anything though :P

That is true.

But then I don't pay incredible attention to news honestly; not because I don't care - I tend to know the basics of most political situations and such - but rather, I already know the world's bad and don't want to be depressed constantly, considering what the news usually is.

A lot of people are ignorant. They don't care if the government is spraying toxic chemicals and metals. Many of them just think there is a battle up above and do not I repeat do not care what is happening right in front of their eyes. Seriously some one called me Satan because my hair was standing up. That is really dumb.

I honestly think it was an accidental double-click on the Post Reply button rather than intentional double post :P It happens, and I greatly dislike when it happens to me.

I decided to trim my hawthorn this morning. The bushes didn't appreciate my effort and now I have hands covered in punctures :3

Our neighbour bastard cat has just killed a tit breeding in the tree in front of my window. :/ Hope the other one will still come to feed the babies, otherwise I'll have to get them out and feed them myself to avoid horrible smell xD

Once a cat destroyed the Goldfinch nest in my garden, they never nested there anymore.
But I just keep chasing/trying to drive over every cat that gets too close to my garden.
