I'm just gonna say this here, since I don't want to double post in the WAYAP topic. Paleo-reconstructions that are WAY too speculative such as the ankylosaur below really bug me:![]() Don't get me wrong. I'm in full support of speculation in paleo-art (as my fond views of All Yesterdays and All Your Yesterdays might imply). However, it eventually gets to a point where it stops being speculation and just becomes fantasy or surrealism. I mean seriously, why would ankylosaurs be so heavily armoured if all that armour was just covered by a thick layer of fluff in life? I could see them as possibly having a few bristles, but that would be it IMO. Edited by CyborgIguana, Sep 13 2014, 01:48 PM.

A sportfishing lake near my house is closing. And you know why ? not because the owner cannot afford it anymore, but because he's sick of other people entering in the area without license and leaving trash everywhere. So, this fact has three things that annoy me: - idiots with no respect for public areas - the lake closing - the fatc I just renewed the license for a lake which will close in a month, 27 euros wasted |

ANd what's worse is that the people who make these reconstructions usually don't do it because they think it's scientifically plausible, but for the attention of "We normally think this animal looked like this, but what if it looked like THIS MONSTROSITY!?" |

Exactly. At least All Yesterdays was grounded in science, stayed consistent with our current knowledge of prehistoric life, and most of the speculations were within the realm of plausibility (even if a few are slightly improbable). However, it seems these days that many "paleo-artists" are just creating insanity for the sake of insanity, and abandoning any sense of science or depiction of dinosaurs as realistic animals in the process.

I didn't say it was impossible, but it's close enough to being impossible that no one should take it seriously IMO.
