Sounds awfully whiny to me.

Well, true that, and again, sorry for coming out as all that passionate, its just that i'm tired to see those dumbarses spreading their whine everywhere, and it personally infuriates me, i'll try to be less, well.... angry the next time.

But again, this is the "What annoys you most" thread, so, i felt like i could vent that.

It is annoying. But they have a right to be annoying. I don't agree with the lengths some "social justice" movements go to, but I do think that for the most part, we can all dial down the discriminatory "isms" in our lives and just, y'know, try not to be total dicks to each other all the time.

I think that what happens a lot is that people of whatever group feel so maligned and marginalized for so long that even statements that are clearly jokes and contain to malice whatsoever can be taken "the wrong way" because they're conditioned to that psychological "flinch." People who make jokes that reference the Holocaust, rape, pedophilia, racism, sexism, etc., need to realize that their joke isn't going to be taken well by everyone and then they need to decide if they're okay with that or not. You're never going to convince all women that a rape joke is okay. You're never going to convince all Jews that a Holocaust joke is okay.

So go ahead and tell your joke, but don't act outraged when someone tells you that it isn't funny and that you're a terrible goddamn person for thinking it is.

It's not so much "everyone is so overly sensitive these days!" as it is we've reached a level of immediate inter-connectivity that surpasses anything any previous generation could have even dreamed possible. It becomes harder and harder to shrug off an offensive comment or joke when you're faced with how many people it offends, and why.

So in the 1950s, when a racist joke was told in an all-white comedy club, no... it probably didn't offend anyone. Those people were ensconced in a community of others just like them. They had no real exposure to the people they were making fun of, which makes it very difficult to feel empathy and sympathy.

Humans are shallow creatures, and that's why we often have to "put a face on an issue"... with a literal face to get us to care about it. The big picture doesn't hit us as hard as the small-scale, "this could have happened to me or my neighbor" picture.

Personally, my real irritation comes from people who very clearly don't give a shit about being an offensive jackass but make all the appropriate noises and motions to appear like they do. Them, and the imbeciles who knowingly say something inflammatory and cruel and then put out the standard, "After prayerful reflection, I realize that my words were harmful and not an accurate representation of my beliefs. I am very sorry to anyone I have offended and will strive to be a better person."

Like, go get bent, you insincere prick.

That was actually correct, but i think you didn't get exactly what i mean, i didn't say that they didn't had the right to be annoying or that they shouldn't feel offended or whatever, on the contrary, they should. What they should and can't do is force others to stop their stuff because it offends them because, really, if we are gonna use "offensive" as a standard anything could be considered offensive, so , just as you have all the right to be offended by , say an holocaust joke, you can't actually stop the guy from telling it, because just as you said, fredom of speech doesn't mean freedom from being offended, and trying to legally persecute the person who ofended you solely on that base is insane, because the concept of offensive is subjective , what is offensive to me may not be offensive to you or vice versa.

I in no way defended uncouth or uncourteous behaviour as "the way it should be", but i merely said that people should stop making such a huge fuss about even the most minor things, that picture of the Stephen guy bulls***ing Dawkin's page is the foremost example of that, people nowadays will find even the faintest excuses to get offended at someone and throw a temper tantrum at them. Look don't get me wrong, its great that we are listening to everybody and are more empathical and united as a species, but should we go to such extreme measures just because we fear offending someone? Of course not, because no matter what you say at any time, someone will get offended by it, because the entire concept is arbitrary, it changes depending on culture and person, for example, to shake someone's hand using your left hand in most of the muslim world is considered offensive and a sign of rudeness, yet it is perfectly fine in the west, greeting women with a kiss in the cheek is just standard greeting in Latin america and southern europe, yet it'd be considered downright invasive and disrespectful in the USA, Britain or Russia.

You see what i'm getting at? The problem here is with the concept of "offensive" itself, which is completely arbitrary and changes from culture to culture and from person to person, with that in mind, defining what we can and what we can't say based on that is stupid at the very least, because when you take this into account everything isa offensive to someone, theres no universal concept of "offensive".

So should people be offended by holocaust jokes? of course they should, should they try to make the comedian's life a living hell and try to ban him from stage aswell as legally prosecute him? of course not, because just as they have the right to be offended the comedian have the right to tell his joke, and honestly, should you dislike his humour you always have the opinion not to listen.

What social justice movements are doing is trying to outright ban people from saying "offensive" things, yet what they fail to realise is that there is no such thing as a drawn line as to what offensive means, and often, pick straw definitions based on their personal feelings, i'm sorry, but it really doesn't work like that, and if they honestly can't understand that they've been obviously sheltered from society and don't understand how it works.

In short, this video (+13, contains some swearing)

Say whatever you want about Mr Kirk and his channel, he is absolutely right on this point.

People who don't seem to have bothered to browse the downloads section before posting in the "Where can I find this download?" topic.

Especially if what they're looking for is just a few clicks away...

Winners never quit, and quitters never win

When you've just started writing a new book, manage to finish the first chapter, and then your stupid computer decides to shut down for no apparent reason (I even had the damn thing charging)
You lose basically the majority of the stuff that you've worked on, because the last autosave only saved like the first paragraph....Nice.

When I merge layers that OUGHT NOT BE MERGED and merrily continue working totally unaware that I've done so until it's waaaaay too late to fix the oversight.

Yes, I know, I know. "Save early, save often." I swear I'll never learn. :C
