Well, in India, a butterfly trying to sit or sitting on a head is considered a good omen ( for some it is a bad omen). And that is , that he or she will get married soon !

I honestly don't see the connection with what I said, but I'll PM you anyway ![]() The concept of Public Domain is that the model/skin/coding can be used by any other designer when credit is given btw, without having to ask the designer every time you want to use it.

Oh, Ruby's our dog, our adorable pet Dobie ![]() And can't think of anything now, but I'll probably get back to you at some point lol Edit: Ah, I misinterpreted the meaning of PD and hence your stated position, and can understand your reasoning for not wanting your work to be PD. That being said while I understand it I don't nessercarily agree, but everyone's entitled to their opinion and to decide what they want done with their own work Edited by Murdock129, Aug 7 2013, 08:31 AM.

Doesn't this look like an old Indian Cinema where a troubled person comes to an astrologer for suggestions ? I think we should talk more casually.

What I'm trying to say is that if a download isn't PD, then if someone somehow gets ahold of it, then it can create issues, so mind as well make it PD. And/or it could create more severe issues, but I'm not going to go that far. Just my opinion, it doesn't have to match yours

I don't know why it's "awful thinking" to be sad about high-quality downloads not being PD. If they weren't, then many people could edit off of that and make more content for a dead game. Someone wants to be un-selfish and make additional subspecies that the original designer doesn't have the time or the will to make? What scum of the earth they must be.

If I may put this in perspective, there is a general rule in the Team Fortress 2 mod community saying so long as you give credit to the original designer, basically everything is PD, and that's how we got such diverse and common modes like Vs Saxton Hale, Deathrun, Prophunt, TF2 Randomizer or X10 Modes, if only the original designers of said modes had decided that they didn't want others editing their mods we wouldn't half half the great modes we had Same with say, Age of Mythology, if things hadn't been PD then Food-Wood-Gold, Settlers, Sims and other such modes would never have taken off. I have other examples but because I could do this all day will leave it with two. Also while I can't know the DL maker's feelings on this and reasoning since I'm not a mind reader, n a discussion I had a good while ago on this very issue one designer mentioned to me the reason they didn't want their creations to be public domain was that they didn't want someone getting praised for doing small modifications to their work quickly, instead of them getting praised when they worked on it for months on end. So that would appear to be the thought process behind at least some designers on this issue |

I've came across the attitude of calling designers selfish for not giving permission to edit their work previously, must say I had some pretty bad conclusions about people thinking this way. Unfortunately, in ZT community, I've seen many people editing others work barely and not bothering to edit it properely to make a new animal - say, it requires original animal, it has wrong zoopedia, somehow it obtained code bugs. Or it doesn't resemble what it's supposed to resemble. Some designers flourish on PD downloads due to inablity to make their own things from zero - and it diverges into two ways. One way it gives a nice variety of things avaliable for download when they actually put work and heart into it, the other, these people take most of the credit for fast work & release with barely any edits done and issues I've mentioned above. While it might seem that designers "should" (and I really exaggerate it here) allow people to edit their hard work openly, I also don't see the problem when a person asks for permission to do something from non-PD download. Designers seem to be regarded as "extremely generous and kind-hearted who make their creations PD" or "evil and selfish jerks who don't make their creations PD" without any phases inbetween. Now think about it: if you were constantly reminded how bad person you are for not doing something that you don't feel good about doing, would you change your ways just to please everyone, or start thinking of them as demanding and ungrateful? |

It's always up to the designer whether they want their wok used or not, I'm not debating that but I'm saying that you shouldn't put down people for hoping or wishing that it was different. Your right, not everyone takes the time to do what's needed for new downloads, not everyone is grateful. But you paint everyone who is "against your way of thinking" the same way you think they paint you. People aren't evil for wishing something, ecspecially something that would help a dead game, Blue Fang aren't coming back. We have amazing designers now-a-days and all some people wish was that "Wow, wouldn't it be cool if we could use AD's Bengal Tiger to make a Sumatran or Indo-Chinese Tiger". "Wouldn't it be epic if we could use their Camel to make a Bactrian Camel"? "Damn, I wish that there Crocodile was PD so that we could make all the others species". |

In the end, you can do this as well by creating your own models and skins, right ? I mean, of course, it will take a bit longer and it might not look perfect from the first try, but sure many designers out there are capable of creating that on their own models and skins ![]() It's always funny to see that these kind of conversations/discussions are mostly with people who don't design than people who do I've yet to hear a large amount of designers complaining that there isn't enough public domain content.
