^ The second and third examples you gave are just movies, which don't represent real life. Also numbers plays a part as well. And the Ottoman Turks were able to capture Constantinople because they had canons, the Byzantines couldn't afford them. |

Nation with the best technology wins 99% of the time David and Goliath was remembered because it was exceptional. If every boy with a sling could kill a giant, then there wouldn't have been all these stories about David

I think the entirety of a little thing called Imperialism serves for more than enough proof that modernization=winning. Rorke's Drift anyone? |

Had the native cultures all around the world domesticated wolverines/honey badgers, they wouldn't have been colonized

The US is larger than GB today, but GB practiced Imperialism for about 400+ years. Understand it was at one point their goal to control all the known world, which they almost succeeded in. Australia, Canada and New Zeland only became "self governing" in roughly 1907, but the process for all three countries was a lot, lot longer. A lot of people will argue they didn't become separated from Britain until the 1980's-1990's. And it's also worth mentioning that the only reason GB was willing to let them all have some self government in the first place was because of Social Darwinism. Think of it like this: Great Britain is the parent and India, China, Africa etc. are toddlers. You wouldn't let a toddler walk 4 blocks to get ice cream, would you? No, which is the type of reasoning used as an excuse to continue ruling over and oppressing third world countries. But, Canada, New Zeland and Australia are kind of like 18 year olds. The Europeans thought they could trust them enough to have a little more freedom, but notice this only happened because the majority of all three had the same cultural ties and were white. No one really cared about the Aborigines, Native Americans or Maori at the time. Edited by Drax, Feb 5 2015, 09:02 AM.

I do agree with you, but if you have a slingshot up against anything powered by electric or gas, you're screwed
