Mediterranean scrub, maybe.
Mediterranean Scrub? In North America?
Well, of course it wouldn't be Mediterranean, but still, some kind of scrubland, I'd say.
It is Mediterranean Scrub... that's what the biome is known as formally, "Chapparal" is merely a broad term of the same thing. However, with this godforsaken drought we have, we're quickly (and literally) drying out into "normal" scrubland, or rather to what one thinks of in parts of the Horn of Africa, Texas, Australia, and other locations.

We were doing pretty well here in LA over the winter :-)
And I actually saw some natural water once :3

'Nuther chicken disappeared. There wasn't even a carcass.
Would that be good or bad if there was one?

If there was a carcass you'd be able to find out the culprit.

I'm now getting depressed by listening to the song from the depressing episode of the Cyanide and Happiness Show.

I made a v1 of a John Hammond leader mod for Civilization 5. :D
Welcome to Jurassic Park for the peace theme and Remembering Petticoat Lane for the war theme.

John Williams soundtracks never ceases to amaze me. :)

Where are you from?

I used to have a fisher that would climb through a vent in the coop and drop down on the birds at night then leave the same way.

But if there was one, there would be a rotting carcass just sitting there.

@Admiral etc.: LA. I've narrowed the possible predators list down to a hawk or a coyote, because nothing was actually killed in the coop. It happened during the day while the chickens were roaming. Of course, there's always the chance that it walked out the front gate while it was open, onto the road, and underneath a moving car's tire. I dunno why it would have done that though, since the only thing to eat out on the streets as garbage and homeless people.

But are there hawks large enough to lift a chicken and carry it away from where they caught it where you live ?
I wouldn't rule out a stray dog either, or humans if it was the case (stealing chickens is becoming popular once again here ...)

I'm not totally sure, but some of the red-tails I've seen soaring around look pretty big. It couldn't have been a stray dog, as for one thing, there most likely would have been a pile of white feathers where it was caught, and for another I live behind a locked gate. As for the idea it could be humans, #1 they wouldn't have stolen the skinny little leghorn that went missing when they could have taken one of the fat Ameraucanas, #2 there's the gate, and #3 I don't live in Italy.

EDIT: Narukota, you avatar-thief. :implode:

nah. :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda: :panda:

EDIT2: Oh no. I've got 911 pointies. Either I'm about to be run over by a car, or hit by a hijacked airplane.
