Finally updated the TBRCH last night. But it's going to be a nightmare next week. It's the senior class's last week of school. That's when they begin their pranks, which include vaseline the lockers, silly string everyone, TP the trees, throwing papers, tackling... And they always have some grand prank that they do, because the school can't really do anything about it since they're leaving. |

Just got back from a weekend trip to New Brunswick and PEI. We didn't get to do much there, 'cause my dad had to give a lecture titled something like "God: Deity or Delusion" which I expected to be boring, but turned out to be pretty interesting. (No, it wasn't a preaching thing, it was from his Science & Religion course at the university he teaches at.) Also, something I find kind of cool. Ever heard of degrees of separation? Basically, X knows Y, and Y knows Z, so there's 1 degree of separation between X and Z. Anyways, there's two degrees of separation between me and Stephen Hawking (my dad knows a guy who wrote a book with him), and two between me and Benjamin Netanyahu (my dad knows a guy who's friends with him). That basically means there's three between me and most world leaders.

I'm curious what was the end result of his lecture? Deity or delusion? |

Huh, that's really interesting! I'm curious to see if anyone else has cool connections like that. I have one degree of separation from comic book artist Scott Snyder and make-up artist/Face-Off winner Anthony Kosar (my boyfriend knows both of them). Basically he showed the arguments for both sides, and it was kind of obvious that the New Atheist argument (mostly Dawkins) was weaker, some of the main points being the so-called "Medieval Gap" etc., and the fact that being religious has health benefits. (I'm trying to say this without sparking an argument, I really don't want that.) Edited by Viggen, May 23 2016, 10:58 AM.

Apparently I missed a stream yesterday. It consisted of the streamer in question singing songs from Hamilton (the musical) while screwing around on GMOD. Brilliant Just brilliant. |

Well, I don't think this is the same thing, but my grandmother once saw Adolf Hitler when she was a child. And my sister has a friend who is friends with some famous band, though I cannot remember what they are called. |

A few of you already know but I got caught in a huge protest at my school last night. Long story short I was at our student center to help with a club that I'm part of, the College Republicans invited an extremely controversial right-wing speaker and his speech was crashed by protesters/Black Lives Matter, he baited his audience so they would go to our college president and do god know's what to him, and both sides started fighting with each other and challenging security. It was terrifying being trapped in the middle of the protest and I'm surprised that no one targeted or harassed me, because someone I know through a class was essentially used as fodder. It was terrifying because the Red Hats (as I've dubbed the supporters of our speaker because nearly all of them had the red "Make America Great Again" hats on) had to be kicked out of the student center twice and started insulting minority students, and even after the crowd was forced to leave they had members patrolling the student center. I felt so powerless and I know if I had said anything I would have been attacked. Clearly all parties are wrong. The protesters and Black Lives Matter shouldn't have crashed the event. The speaker shouldn't have baited the audience and led them to our president's office. The Red Hats should have stopped the first time they were kicked out. Security should have intervened earlier before things got so out of hand. This is on top of some similar cases, like the College Republicans vandalizing the student center and writing borderline-racist slogans (something they've claimed), and someone recently writing a slur against Mexico in tar on our quad (which the group denies responsibility for). As for me, I am seriously questioning how safe I feel on campus and if I should transfer. |
