Personal safety is always a bigger priority over general status of the society. Especially when you are not an oppressed minority, in any respect. Many Asian, Indian and White men voted because they literally saw a higher economic potential in Trump's US. They have nothing to fear, mostly they are documented immigrants. White women who voted for Trump were heavily influenced by said white men of their family, and/or somehow believed misogyny isn't directed to them, but they still enjoy the fruits of feminism, unconsciously. They are the usually the heterosexual masses, and have no one in their family who may have to face social backlash from Pence's 'conversions'. Then there are the Black people, Arab people and the Latinx people. With Trump's intentions to stop radical terrorism; generalization, albeit ever-existent; is now increasing. Fear on both sides are bound to surge, for respective reasons. When you know there is a great chance of encountering a muslim terrorist, you would be cautious around all muslims, and the inborn fear stems to hate, when you get the power to trump said fear. Media coverage of black 'thugs' brings the general idea that upon encountering a black person, you are potentially meeting a thug. Increase the police force -> Police overcautious with black people make terrible mistakes -> repeat fear and harm cycle. And the Latinx people? Oh they would drug you and rape you - is the general idea with media coverage, and more so with trump's emphasis on Mexican immigrants. ILLEGAL immigrants, but that happens to be the lesser concern here. Oh and the LGBTQIA? Eff them, all the good we had last year, revert it back, so that we can get on with converting them back to straight. The problem is, the people who did vote Hillary - assumed to have the connections, as they are oppressed in some respect. Women as compared to men, Blacks and Latinos compared to Whites and Asians, but they did not. They were vocal and expressive. But that did not sway trump supporters because they were silent, and had the connection they needed. It's not just about economy, nor about social issues, nor about international politics - but an intimate mixture of all. Either of the candidates did not have the balance. And as it seems, economy and international politics is more important than social conditions and general progress to the people of US. And Trump is now the president. With him atleast you don't see a 3rd world war, but everything inside will suck. And Trump centers the economic balance on US, which cuts off many important nations in such respects as trade. Stock markets are bound to fall. All in all, this is my uneducated and 2-penny input on this subject. It bothers me because India is gonna be besties with Trump's US, and no one here is actually bothered with him. "We will kill the muslims (curse word)" is what I heard after a trump win, here in the streets. There have been rejoicing. A lot. (Search up Hindus for Trump). And that hurts me. I am not the minority in this particular respect, but my sexuality does put me on minority category - and it just scares me that if this is possible; then the same sentence with muslim replaced by my special adjective could be hurled at me. At it would be celebrated. PS: Shame on you, 47% of the people who didn't vote. |

To steer away from the political talk (which I think we should move to the topic in the news section so we don't clutter the Status one), had my first day of HACCP training today. Hopefully I can get it done so I have something worthy of attention in my curriculum vitae. |

That's quite a bit of political talk. I'll be straying away from that and I'll just say that I'd like to get back to designing and I also completed Driver's Training and have my learner's permit. |

My final exams for the quarter are just about done, yay. But unfortunately it's not all happy because I found out one of my good friends is transferring to another college after winter break. I'm happy for him because he got a huge opportunity and a good scholarship, but I'm going to miss him a lot. |

So, I remembered something that happened during my trip to Bhutan this March( April?) which was a bit creepy. In our hotel at Paro, we were located in the middle of a quite town with lot of friendly people, but our hotel in Thimphu was really towards the outskirts, almost surrounded completely by a jungle, except that a road covered the front of the complex. The place wasn't necessarily creepy, but it wasn't serene and calming as most mountain forests are. I mean, that could've been only me, because my parents found it very pleasant, so did our rest of the family. And in my younger days, I was a foolish little idiot who got really into witchcraft (albeit ineffective) (not satanic don't hate me pls) I had always had a connection with the paranormal. Unlike my eldest aunt, a famed Cardiologist of Calcutta who shuns anyone who believes in anything unscientific. So, the thing was, the hotel was located on a bit of a higher land by the road, and the jungle around it descended quite steeply down into valleys - though not steep enough to prevent us from talking a stroll down it. So, to give you an idea - it was the road, then the hotel quite high from that level, and then forests at the level of the road. The backside of all the three hotel rooms our family occupied had a wall of glass facing the sloping forests behind, and it was a) 'beautiful' ~ the elders b) "eh' ~ My elder sister in her 20s and c) 'not so sure' ~ me. So, we stayed there, beautiful room service, beautiful food and all. The night was beautiful. We chatted all evening on one of the rooms, with the view of the dark forest, and the Thimphu skyline over the horizon. I was always looking out for Paranormal activities (roll credits), but nothing happened. But, the next morning - my aunt (not the cardiologist one) called us to show something quite creepy. So, me, mom and dad go over to the other room to see wet handprints over the glass wall, from the other side. It was very fresh, with water dripping off of them, and I was scared straight (roll credits). The third family of my cardiologist aunt they were still getting ready for sightseeing that day (they are early risers), so they didn't come to see it. As we debated the cause of it, my dad - unaffected by this - takes out the newspapers, starts reading it and said, "they were cleaning the windows duh". Just as he said this, my aunt who just got ready, walked in saying "What were you going to show-", looks at the window, stands stunned for a second, and faints. We rushed to hold her. After a few minutes, she woke up. I asked the management if there was anything paranormal about that room. The management said that nothing like this ever happened. And they insisted. We checked the other rooms, there was nothing like that. My aunt, who fainted said - and this might be a disturbing image to some - 'a woman with her head upside down, holding onto the window with her hands like suckers and her feet freely hanging, and she was staring dead and expressionless into the room'. I was shocked. Really really shocked. I wanted to get out that day. But, my family decided to stay, and my aunt admitted that she might've 'seen something wrong' because she didn't have breakfast yet and hunger was affecting her thought processes. But, being the uber-scientific she is, I'd have never imagined hearing it from her. We stayed for 2 days more, nothing unusual happened. But, it still haunts me from time to time. |
