I've been thinking of putting a batbox in my garden too, but I can't seem to find a suitable spot. Plus it would most likely end up infested by wasp nests (courtesy of our neighbors who has a window covered in hives but for some reason doesn't get rid of them). |

It honestly saddens me that; 1 - People don't understand the concept of 'skipping over to the next comment' 2 - People get annoyed by puns... puns. 3 - I've been threatened to be 'banned' because 'puns' are 'harassing' people. Honestly, this community is small and for the most part, people here are incredibly... well, trying to find the word is pretty hard without 'triggering' or 'hurting' someone and getting threatened again. A batty situation for me. Also want to bring into attention, incorrect use of the 'I don't understand' button recently. If you read the past few status pages, lots of people have used it incorrectly. |

I only posted that post to magpie because I am not a huge fan of situations where one person is being unfairly targeted. Phoenix has a very valid point... he posted puns in the Status topic (so he can hardly be considered off-topic because there is not a whole lot of 'topic' in this topic). While some people may be genuinely annoyed by puns, you could argue that the puns also facilitated discussion, because he posted them in reply to other members' posts and many people responded to them. The argument that Phoenix was asked to stop prior to magpie's post is invalid. No one posted a genuine request for him to stop until magpie's post. Prior to that, any comments appeared (at least to me) to be in humour - i.e. Phoenix posted puns, so everyone told him to stop because it's funny to hate on puns. If any of the comments in response were serious, I'd be very worried about the mental health and sensitivity of many of the members who were replying because I read comments in response that mentioned not wanting to live and changing the rules so that puns are a ban-able offense, but no general "Hi Phoenix, puns really bother me and I'd prefer if you stopped". So if you immediately go to threatening with warns and bans because of a personal annoyance over a few posts, it does seem extremely unfair. Why? Because a personal bias should never affect how a staff member interprets the rules. If so, I could decide that when members post depressing comments it bothers me, so they should be banned. This is clearly ridiculous, but is honestly no different from what is happening here. As I said, I more did this in defense of Phoenix and probably deserve to be warned for that comment, given that I was directly attacking another member. However, I would like to make the case that it was not an entirely unfair comment. Firstly, I do respect magpie as a member. He contributes to the forum through his posts in discussions and through posting zoos, and I do not take that away from him. He is a great guy. I would like to suggest that as a staff member, his contribution has not been as much. If we look at the Primate contest, for example, which was only finished up last month I believe... He claimed that he has been busy over fall and hence, the contest results were delayed. However, over the month that was required to write a single page which he did not have time for, yet he managed ~ 50 posts? Across the site, magpie has made 24 moderator actions since May. That is approximately 4 actions a month. In comparison, I, as a non-active staff member who barely visited the site in that time, made 31 moderator actions. There's much more to staffing than moderator actions alone, but given the contest was not being run, little moderation seems to have been done and the moderation actions I have seen were in response to puns, I don't see where he warrants respect as a staff member. Reality is neither magpie nor I warrant any respect in terms of our activity as staff members. Being a staff member (not because of his activity), magpie is well within his rights to make a post to request the end of the puns but: This is very different from politely asking Phoenix to stop. I would know because I've posted very similar things in the past in response to other members "spamming" or posting annoying content, and it always ended up badly (see the "defecating in shock" saga). I would also like to point out that Phoenix has since stopped, so he clearly hasn't disobeyed staff. |

Alright I will say my piece. First of all, I acknowledge that threatening a warn (never said a word about a ban) was out of bounds, though I had no plans on following through with it. I did think it was pretty obvious that other people were getting annoyed, and I know for a fact people wanted it to stop, but one can be forgiven for not seeing that. I don't want to seem like I personally am targeting Phoenix due to bias, because that is not true as I barely know him, but regardless, I humbly apologize if he felt that way. Anyway I did see that I'd gone too far and tried to turn it into a (still snarky) less forceful request that the puns stop. Second, I don't really see what my contribution as a moderator has to do with this? If we really want to put me on the chopping block I'm all for it but let's do that in the discussion group, not here; I'm not going to address that right now. Third, I thought of an analogy to explain how I feel about the amount of puns, and I will use a part of my short life to share my thoughts with you. Say I talk about lasagna. Lasagna's pretty good, we can all agree on that. But what if I didn't stop talking about it? Since this is the status topic, I say the subject is lasagna. Every time someone posts something, I reply with a comment about lasagna. It gets to the point where I'm stretching very far to make it my lasagna comment relevant to the one above, and no matter if people are trying to move on from the deliciously cheesy dish, I refuse to talk about anything else. Yeah, people can ignore it, but it gets... old. It's irrelevant, it's a bother, and everyone has to deal with those comments, even if they're just scrolling past, when they come to join the discussion. Furthermore, the other members have been voicing their annoyance with my activities. I think the staff would be well within their rights to ask me somewhat forcefully to stop. Obviously puns are not the end of the world, I am known to relish in one now and then. But there's a time and a place. To reiterate, I really do not have it out for Phoenix in any way. I'm sorry if you felt personally attacked, and ask your forgiveness. I want to do my job in a fair manner but I am quite imperfect. Anyway RIP that bat that FP hit. |

I'm active on this forum 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. On these days, I can be active from 9am-3pm. I use this forum as a way to past time and have some enjoyment during schooling hours. I believe I posted those puns in a spread of 2 days. Yes, it can get excessive but I keep it to 1 pun per comment and only commenting when I have a pun I'd like to make. I'm not always replying with puns, only when I have an opportunity to make one. Why? Because I find enjoyment in it and it gives me practice for writing tasks and reports for work. I didn't feel attacked that much, if I was it was because of the moderators and not other members. I think its unfair to threaten me with a warn OR ban for something as simple as puns. I don't think it takes much brain power to ignore my comment if you find puns annoying. It was stupid to call it spam but even more dumb to call it 'harassment' as SGD pointed it out to be. It was in no way harassment as I didn't target someone, anger them, upset them or make them feel 'harassed'. If you don't believe that, then a simple definition search can further prove my point: Harassment aggressive pressure or intimidation. I'd like to say that I will not stop making puns regardless of who tells me. I didn't stop when Magpie told me to, I didn't stop when Danny suggested me to do. I have my own freedom in this discussion to talk freely of what I want. This is general discussion in the topic-less 'status' discussion. There are no rules placed down against puns and no rules that will be placed down. I can tone down my puns but if I have an opportunity, I'll take it. I hope you can understand my Risoni-ng.
