The CRG Problem
May 30 2013, 06:55 PM
I mean its not so much a feeling like the staff are members, because that would mean the staff don't get appreciated and neither do the members. Its more like everyone feels like staff. We all feel important because we all are important. We all feel loved and appreciated. Not just the staff.
yes, I'm so glad to hear that CRG- I think that's something we've wanted to institute without realizing it- this is OUR community. Everyones. Its why we allow backseat modding- and why we allow people to make their own competitions. Its why we take every suggestion seriously and every member as the most important.

As for all the above comments- they were amazing and very very encouraging. I don't know what what else to say but thanks guys :')

As for the poems.... wow- love them. If the posts above didn't make my laugh out loud, they made me cry inside- Thanks everyone :)

Hopefully another post will be coming today. ;)

Thanks Josh *cries*

I love this site because there's this impression of family there wasn't at Gaia, where the admins, all members of DD, formed their own group of friends, nor at NS. This is one of the great flaws of the S VS M game : it enlarges the hole between staff and members.
Here, we're only 1/10 of Gaia's size and we are as active. For we are a big family, all buds and no fighting going on. I have never seen insults fusing here, never seen fights, never seen sadness. We love our staff and the staff loves us. And this is why I love TRT.

Out of Service

From Wikipedia:

"The Round Table is King Arthur's famed table in the Arthurian legend, around which he and his Knights congregate. As its name suggests, it has no head, implying that everyone who sits there has equal status."

Just realized this. Perfect name. :D

That's really quite interesting that you posted that snyf- I had never thought of that- but now that you mention it I think its really cool. Actually the name for TRT was given by my mom when I told her the main idea of the old one, which was so that designers could create private groups to talk- thus The Round Table - A Meeting Board. :)

Speaking though of and member equality- I shall present Part II of How are we doing?, which will be about Staff Accountability.

Part II- Staff Accountability

Now if you've read the board rules... which I doubt you have (who does?), then you'd notice that our rules are a little different then the average forum- at least the average forum I've been on. Now, if you haven't read them- its really quick and easy to do so, and Susan did a nice job at making everything clear and NOT boring, so I'd suggest you do. If it IS boring then let us know and maybe we'll add some jokes and cute emoticons like this guy -->
I'm kidding- we're too serious for that ;D

No seriously, what I was trying to get at is we have Rules, and Guidelines for users- The rules are pretty straight forward- don't do it. The guidelines leave a lot of margin for the staff to give grace- and you'd rarely even get a verbal warning for doing them cuz they are pretty much just there to keep peace and order.

Now, on the bottom of the Rules it says something about Backseat Modding- something other forums dislike- for some odd reason. I mean it never made sense that on a community forum where staff know the rules just as the members, and the members care about the board just as the staff, that the members can't tell a member, using the rules, if he is doing wrong. Just means we have tons and TONS more eyes- which in my opinion is good!

So that's the rules and guidelines for everyone on this board- members and staff, but what you guys don't know is that staff have their own guidelines in addition to the board rules. And it only makes sense to me, that for a check and balance to work (US government phrase), the members should know what to report if the staff do something wrong. So here's our extra guidelines... *cringes*

Firstly we aren't supposed to cuss or debate or argue in the public forums- just because to some it could look bad- so if you see one of us doing that then... report it. This doesn't follow for private topics of course. Also we are supposed to have patients with all members everywhere all the time. If you see one of us putting our stress, anger, frustration, or impatience (which every human being gets guys) then we are doing wrong, and I'd appreciate if you let the staff member know in a PM or through the Staff Box.

Now why'd I tell you that? Well, so that firstly you know that we have the same rules as ya'll and you guys can hold us accountable to them (staff often get slacky) and because we know that you care that we are sharp and the best to our abilities.

With that I think I need to close- I really didn't have any thesis in this post and I feel bad, but oh well, my grammar teacher wont be reading it so I think I'm good >:)

Have a good night (or day).

~Josh

I'd like to add onto the bit about our own guidelines, since I helped with the idea to begin with. Originally there were just some obvious rules, but as Danny, Josh, and I worked more on this board, we found more to add to the list. I don't think there's even a list, really. But the things Josh mentioned are things we agreed on. Originally, we thought about having a section where cursing would be allowed, but we ruled it out wondering why we needed one. It wouldn't be good for the board's "mood" if you want to call it that.

As for debates, this might seem like a strange rule. Basically, there were two reasons for this. The first was to prevent us from possibly using favoritism, which can be an easy thing to do. If we abstain from debates, we'll be less likely to like/dislike specific members for their views. After all, everyone has a personality that deserves to be known without being influenced by what different opinions they might have. The other reason was the reciprocal. We didn't want our own views to possibly influence how we're seen. We love being open with you guys for sure, and opposing views shouldn't have to come between a good relationship.

Like Josh said in the first part of his series he's got going, we're just like you guys. As for patience, that's something I think most everyone should have anyway, but as staff we should have extra amounts. If we're not better than members for being staff, what's the point of the position? The answer is simply that we're here to serve you guys. We take care of the pointies and answer those questions. These are the tasks that require patience, so we strive for that.

I'd also like to comment on the part about back seat modding. We do allow it here, though I prefer not to use the same term as it implies something more negative. Some of you might remember that be had a Public Staff Forum in the beginning, which we later turned into Introductions, Announcements, and things like that. But the point of it was to let our members be a part of our staff decisions. After all, this board is for you! Allowing back seat modding is just a way members can help out. In a way, all of you are a part of staff, I'd say.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for your feedback comments here. They were amazing. :D
