As sad as it will be to leave our new friends and the amazing time we had together, the Marathon Contest will be ending this month. But don't worry, we still have a little longer left, and a few contests to go. Hopefully, as the name implies, there will be a Marathon II Contest in coming months.

Durring the month of May however, we plan to take things easy, as the Marathon has worn a lot of us down. We will bring several contests to the board though, with a range of different talents needed. If all turns out, at least one contest will be made every week, each lasting for three weeks. This means that before the end of May we will always have three running contests, plus a contest in voting, and a concluded voting!

Along with weekly contests, we also hope to bring more games, such as April's 25,000 Game, which many members participated in, as well an un-announced special game that we are looking forward to bring you guys!

Currently we are voting on the entries from the Creature Creation Contest [here], as well as continuing the Marathon I Contest, which you can read about [here]. You can also view the Leader Board for the Marathon Contest [here] along with all entries so far [here].
If you are part of the Marathon Contest you still have time to post your entries challenges One, Four, and Five!

Also, don't forget to enter the Urban Photography Contest, open to all users!

Before we continue, we would like to notify you about the condition of the Achievement Zoo- which you may have noticed is not working. Unfortunately the file has been deleted and though we have record of all purchases and achievements, the code to make them work on the board will have to be re-created. While we do not want to promise specific dates of revival, we will try and have it back as soon as possible, and if not sooner. Thank you for understanding.

[anchor]spotlight[/anchor]Posted ImageInterviewed by: Franco

Each month we will be doing a spotlight on talent for a member we feel deserves it. We would like to congratulate this month's talent, MiBound!

1) How did you discover the game ?
I played ZT1 when it first came out and followed the development and release of ZT2 with some friends who also played. I guess I was in on it from the very beginning.
2) How did you discovered the community ?
I was on Microsoft's official game forum when it first came out, and then moved over to ZooAdmin. I fell out of the community for a while and then "rediscovered" it after randomly searing for "ZT2" on YouTube. I found a video for AuroraDesigns' Radical Remake and joined the forum at Northern Skies to start downloading the remakes. Eventually I became more active, migrated to Gaia, and now to TRT.
3)What was the best experience you have in the community ?
Figuring out how to make my own animals that actually function in the game. I can't mesh yet, but I hope I can learn that too. The Marathon Contest here at TRT has been a great experience too.
4)What inspires you to make zoos ?
I love animals but I actually HATE zoos in real life. I always find them so artificial and depressing. The few zoos and exhibits that I do like are very natural and make me feel like I'm in another part of the world, watching animals in the wild. I guess that's what inspires me most: Creating an artificial environment that feels real for whoever is looking at it and for the animals living in them (at least in my imagination... ZT2 animals will enjoy pretty much any exhibit as long as it meets their basic needs).
5) When did the love for animals first started ?
As far back as I can remember. I grew up with lots of pets and my parents never said "no" when I asked for something new or different. I've always had dogs, and I've had hamsters, parrots and parakeets, fish, amphibians, reptiles, cats etc. The only thing I've been denied is a horse and I can't really fault anyone there. I don't have the money, space, or time to care for such a big animal, though I still would love to have one someday.
6) What is you favorite animal and why?
Horses. I've always loved them since I was a little girl and I still do today. I love all animals (even the creepy, crawly kind), but horses have always been an obsession of mine. I don't think I'm ever as happy as when I'm riding, except maybe when I'm swimming. I have a great affinity for the ocean, especially.
7) If there is a possibility to bring back and extinct animal back to life what would it be and why ?
My knee-jerk response would be some kind of feathered dinosaur because... they're awesome. But I think if I actually had the chance to bring something back to life, I'd pick something more recently extinct. I think the Thylacine would be my choice.
8) What do you think you can achieve in the future ?
I'd like to move into upper management within the company I currently work for. That's so boring, I know, but once you're paying for things on your own, making a little more money and having to work a little less for it becomes pretty important.
9) What is your dream ?
Retire before I'm in my 60s and travel the world with my boyfriend (who will hopefully be my husband by then).
10 ) Give a message for all the readers
Don't let anyone tell you that your interests and hobbies are weird, childish, or a waste of time. You'd be surprised how many real-world applications something like ZT2 fandom participation can provide.

Staff Changes: With real life filling our time, it was clear to all the staff that we needed a little more help- fortunately we got a lot! Please welcome Rafael as our new Download Manager!!
Never-mind, after formatting tons of downloads in such a short amount of time, Rafael has been promoted to our new Pointies Manager! He will be in charge of most of the pointies being handled throughout this board. Fortunately he is good at math, and worked in a bank for 25 years!.... ok I'm kidding about the bank- but either way please welcome Rafael guys!

Animal Encyclopedia: Remember that cool forum back in the day, called AE? Well its coming back.... sorta. The staff at AE have agreed to pass the Animal Encyclopedia idea to us. Hopefully in the coming weeks we will have a really cool section with info about all sorts of animals, and even links to ZT2 downloads of them! Along with cool pics, an awesome format, and even an animal of the week, which will be released with a new animal for the Shop!

Master Classes: With so many different people, and so many different talents and knowledge in the community, we will be creating a place to share your knowledge about certain topics of interest. Members will be able to not only be able to share their experiences and knowledge on any subject they know about, but they can also ask questions to people of more experience in a subject on matters they don't know much about!

Official TRT Zoo: TRT will be creating a cool zoo for show, which will appoint volunteers every week to make an exhibit, aquarium, or walkways to show as one giant zoo! This is still in progress, but look forward to it in the coming weeks!

If you haven't entered Gaia's Infographic Contest you still have time! The art contest assigns an artistic colage of animal info. Be sure to enter before the deadline of May 15th!

Read More about Gaia's Infographic Contest Contest [here].

And please do not forget to vote for the the best entry in the Hagenbeck Contest at Gaia. You can do that [here].

There are also a couple of new features added to Gaia, including a Debate Forum, which you can read about [here] and a Staff PM Box which you can read about [here].

Head on over to Gaia to check them out!

Gaia also has switched up their staff team a little this month. And while we were all glad to have Rhino Rangler as Admin during the end of March, life outside the forums has obligated him, as well as ZooLeopard to step down from their roles and become Assistant Admins. On the bright side though, Unicorn has finally been promoted to the high role of Admin to co-lead the forum!

Welcoming:

They say that the first impression is what counts- what lasts, and is what makes up somebodies mind about whether they like you, or they don't. It makes up someone's mind about whether they're going to invest time in you, or not. This goes for people- but it also goes for a community. How someone is welcomed when they enter this forum, will determine if they like this place, or if they don't; whether they're going to invest time into our community, or not.

Imagine for a minute that you are looking to buy a house. You find a nice one on a street and you go to check it out. The owner greets you kindly and shows you around. Its a nice house and you want to buy it. On the way out a child smiles and waves at you, and a driver kindly slows down as he passes you and nods his head in acknowledgment.

Not a bad street in my opinion. In fact it seems quite nice, and on first impression most people would think it is lovely. But now imagine again that you're looking at the same house:

The owner greets you kindly and as you exit, a lady is standing at the door. She greets you by name and introduces herself. She tells you about herself, and welcomes you to the community, asking you to call her if you need help and to visit next door sometime. As you walk on the street to your car a man walks over and greets you, welcoming you to the community and offers to help you to carry the bundle of paper-work and files you are handling. A child waves at you, and a car slows down and a man smiles and introduces himself as the guy next door, and even offers to mow your lawn for you when he does his!

Folks, right now we're like the first story. We are kind, and we even make a page of introductions when we greet people, but imagine if all of us greeted every single person you said "hi" here? We would easily fill 2, 3 or even 4 pages just for one person! Imagine the impression. We do good, be we could do far better.

So here is the challenge: Greet people this month, and don't just say "Hi new members!" or "Welcome"- no body notices that. Say the persons name, its way more impacting then just "hello, and welcome." Here is a good chart to match up to.

Grade F. Simple 1-4 word greeting. "Welcome Everybody!!!"
Grade D. Greeting plus comment. "Hi guys! Glad you're here!"
Grade C. Name. "Welcome Danny!!!"
Grade B. Name and comment. "Hi zozmonster!! I'm so glad you joined!!!"
Grade A+. Name, comment, and remark (or question). "Hey Hey Umpaloompa! Glad you finally joined! I love your name btw ;) Charlie & the Chocolate Factory for the win!"

Interested in helping out the forum? Well there are several things you can do to help us out!

1. Join the Newsletter Team! All the above posts were written this month, and next month you could be one of the writers! Post in the Staff PM Box and tell us what you would like to do, and we'll get you into something.
2. Report stuff. If you see something that is against the site rules, then just click that little report button so that we can see it ASAP. We can't be everywhere at once, so the sooner you let us know about it the better ;)
3. Assist. If you see someone who needs help, has a question, or isn't following the rules, kindly help them out if you can. Often times a staff will still follow up behind you, but we always appreciate seeing members helping each other out.
4. Be active. The more you post, and make topics, the more others can post and that will open more doors for you to post!
5. Be friendly. PM people, welcome people, and be patient with everyone, especially newer members. Remember, if you're kind to people, its very likely they'll be kind to you ;)
6. Submit Downloads. We have a nice download center so we mine as well get as many downloads as we can in it. We also have good download managers, so we had mine as well keep them busy too ;)
7. Offer your help in the Staff PM Box. We aren't looking to hire a bunch of staff, but that doesn't mean we don't need help. Let us know if you are available and we may just have something for you that would take a lot of pressure off of us.
