I'm learning blender and gimp. I can't code for the life of me unless I see where to go and what to change. Written instructions would be helpful but I'm a visual learner thus why I need to see what to do. |

I'm pretty sure it's just a case of renaming it something different so that these new files do not override and conflict with the old ones. Keep the name consistent, however. Go find the original megalograptus .z2f file and make a temporary folder to extract it in, keep the .z2f file in there with it and you should now get usually about four folders, ai, entities, lang, and ui. Go into ai - tasks - animals and rename both .beh and .tsk in there to whatever species you want to change the old megalograptus to be. Go into entities - sound and do the same for the .xml in there. Go into entities - units - animals - ai and do the same there too, but only edit the actual name, not the tags at the end, such as _Adult or _Young. Rename the folder that is named after the megalograptus to what you want and then go into there and do the same for all the files in there, remembering to keep the tags at the end. Go into lang - usually 1033 for English - and rename the .xml file in there. Unless you want to bother with zoopedia entry, I wouldn't bother with the ui folder. Got all that? Good. Because now you have to go through every single .beh, .tsk and .xml file and replace the old megalograptus name with the one you changed it to. If you use notepad to open aforementioned files, your life is made easier with the replace function under edit - replace, or Ctrl+H. Enter what the old files used to say and then enter what you changed it to. Do this in every single file you renamed. Once that's done, open up the original .z2f file, delete everything in it and then drag all four main folders into the .z2f itself. Rename it something different, and there you go. A new animal. |

I'm a visual learner too, bud. But back then, all I had was an old, outdated tutorial, but I was able to make do with that. Nowadays, it's a lot easier to learn how to code, with a lot of up-to-date tutorials, helpful people, and zoozane. As long as there's a will to do something, you will be able to do it.
