OK, so I've only been a member here for a day. Is that too soon for me to make a blog? I'm sure a lot of people are asking that question. But, you must think of an analogue; did Darwin release the Origin of Species too soon? I'm sure Wallace and, for an entirely different reason, the Church would think so. At the very least the church and a whole bunch of fundamentalists would think so. They'd probably prefer if he hadn't released it at all. But, he did, and he got the credit and became famous for all history (or at least a very long time). So, this blog is supposed to have much the same effect; change the world, make me famous, and maybe offend the church slightly. ... ... ...or not. It's actually pretty much just a place for me to ramble on about... things. As you can see, that's one of my few virtues. And... erm... that's really all I have to say. In fact, how about I shut up now? I'm sure everybody's hoping for that.

Hint: Edit this post and set your signature not to show. Having two banners looks kind of... odd. And welcome to the Round Table buddy! |

Thanks! Also, I added the second sig because it looks kinda weird otherwise, with it randomly just dropping off there with me "shutting up". I just wanted something to... IDK... smooth it out. |

So, I was thinking, do you guys think Government actually works, for extended periods of time? It seems like we're all taught to assume that, if we work, government will just kinda... work. Maybe there's stories of the world falling into anarchy from nuclear war and such, but we never seem to take those "stories" too seriously. But, is this assumption that government could work really true? It's something I've thought about a lot. And, when you look at it, it seems odd [to me] that we would even consider that government works. I mean, we're animals evolved to live in small clans, not massive nations. Leaders kept control of the clan because they were in the personal lives of every member, who often [personally] related and/or respected them. This is in stark contrast to our current "setup", with a few men and women leading literally millions of people. These men and women practically live in a different "world"; we can't relate to them personally, so much. Not to mention the [possibly even more severe] problem that having so much power causes; greed, and the chances to take advantage of it. While I think government is an interesting concept, and I'd love to see the world's millions of people live in peace, I can't help but wonder if we're naturally inclined to hinder large "clans", like nations, to the point of them being completely defunct. @Sheather, Tapirs. I love Pygmy Hippos, but Tapirs are probably my favorite herbivorous mammal. Edited by BlitzHabu, May 30 2013, 12:47 AM.

You make a very good point, Blitz. I don't know. Government is a very tricky issue - it has many pros, of course, but cons as well. Perhaps if everyone could all agree on many of today's issues, it would be less of a concern. I do not believe an anarchy would be a good thing (you know... psychopaths, racists, and homophobes free to kill whoever they want), but I also am not satisfied with the current state of how we necessarily run things. An ungoverned culture would be very different from what we've all grown up with and may be hard to adapt to at this point. |
