True, but they are not crocodiles! Lets stop this discussion we are cluttering up MIbound's project topic. |

It's about a week from start-to-finish right now. I wish I could just sit and work on animals all day, but mostly I'm sneaking in a half hour here, an hour there. I'm usually on the board while I'm at work, and sadly... no Photoshop, Nifskope, or even 7-zip to open up files there. I'm telling you guys... this is not hard. Like... at all. Lay out your basic colors then apply textures until you find the ones that look "right." Adjust your colors. Adjust your textures. Finalize. Make variants (which, if you've saved your image in layers, also isn't hard). Trickiest part is figuring out how to "read" the UV map. I simplified that with the Tree-Kangaroo by first painting every section of the map a different color, applying it to the model in Nifskope and studying what goes where and how. Worst part is coding. It's tedious and I ALWAYS make the same mistakes. But take all the aforementioned and chuck it out the window if you're making a bird. Stupid birds. With their... feathers. And wing patterns.

I honestly find the coding the easiest part I tried skinning once. I ended up so frustrated that I deleted everything immediately. And well, coding is easy as long as it‘s not that behaviour coding Iben‘s doing. That‘s what I‘m going to try and learn this summer. So, if you want to, I could code some of your new animals (If my grades are OK, that is. If they‘re bad I‘m going to have to survive two months without computer)

I'm trying to learn as I go, and I'd love to learn more advanced coding, too. Right now, I'm pretty limited in that I'm literally taking the original coding that came with whatever model I'm using, and just replacing the original animal name with mine. While I work on animals that are fairly similar to the original I'm building it from, that's okay. But eventually, I'd like to learn how to model edit (my goal for the summer, lolol), and that might call for all different kinds of coding and behaviors. Right now, you, Crookedjaw, and Iben are my go-to people for when I screw up the coding. Since this list is growing (and growing, and warring, and growing), I may take you up on that, for expediency's sake Thanks, Stephen

I also used to find coding the easiest part... until now. Still find basic coding easy but also extremely boring ![]() I am aiming for meshing now. And it seems we have different skinning methods, I am a photosource + minor edits guy. |

Seems like I should open a free-easy-coding-here thread then

Photo-sourcing is great if you can find a good photo reference to build off of. For something with a very simple "pattern" like this and the squirrels, a few color layers and the clone stamp will take you pretty far. The few projects I've tried photo-sourcing on just came out looking like a cut-out of the photo Maybe that's why I suck at birds, Crook lolol I was trying to paint them by hand!

My only hand-painted critters are the Goldentail and zebra morays, and some extinct animals. I prefer photosourcing, though I usually have a quite definite skinning method. I think I should PM you my bird textures... |
