Prevost's Squirrel WIP 1![]() Just laying out flat colors and trying to get their position on the model right. Played around with some brushes to get a more "brindle" grey layer for the tushy, as I don't want to 100% rely on a brindle fur texture to do all the work for me. Still a work in progress, obviously. Just thought I'd show what I'm up to. Also, the fix to the Abert's Squirrel will be out by Saturday at the latest. My work week starts today so I'm not sure how much time or energy I'll have for these.

Prevost's Squirrel WIP 2: Texture Boogaloo![]() Progress! To do: -Fix the tail texture at the base of the tail (lol, wrong way) -Add contrast to the leg and feet texture layer. -Add shading to the face. -Blend the ear edges, add more detail to inside of the ears. -Add claws. -Fix the eye. -Add a nose. -Add final color highlights and details. Thoughts? |

I think it look very nice, but i can't have a real opinion until i see the final result. But you are in the right path Only thing i can say is that maybe you should do the the brown more reddish... if you know what i mean.

Great work so far. I feel there is too much gray, especially on the rump area, where it should be more black or darker gray. The head does need gray, but I also think there is too much. The rust color also seems too dull, maybe a little more red/orange? |

Oh, I have a lot of color editing and details to add. These are still just the flat colors I showed first with the textures applied. I've literally done no editing to the color layers yet. And there will be plenty of variants for this guy (does anyone know what the max # possible is?). Here's the reference I used for laying out the color: ![]() Individuals' color distribution and patterns do vary, so that will show up on variants

Where the back arches there should definitely be more black. I think I'm going to reduce the height of where the red/orange on the belly reaches, move the white flank stripe down, and then extend the black further down, too. I like the grey on the butt, but I'm going to look for a texture with longer hair fibers to make it look fluffier. The white/gray on the muzzle needs to reach all the way to the edge of the mouth. The eye needs to be about twice the size it is now. I'm going to add a bigger fur texture along the bottom edges of the jaw to break up the smaller pattern already there. Need to add shadows to the face to make it look less flat. Inside of the ears need to be detailed. Red and orange hues added to the belly and chest. Claws need to be added. I added a nose which looks super cute before I left for work, so I'm happy with that. What about whisker dots on the muzzle? Did I miss anything?

I love the species. I do hope someone eventually makes a north american gray squirrel, red squirrel, and black squirrel. |
