This looks awesome! I sense I'm going to have to build a new aviary very soon! And I realize this is probably psetering, you can just ignore it if you want to, but I was wondering if maybe in the future you would consider making a Fairy Bluebird. I think it would fairly easy because you could pretty much just use the same skin from the wings of the Roller. Anyways, nice work! |

I think the skin looks flawless and vibrant. Amazing job! I think the head could use some mesh edits though, to make it thicker. |

I'll see if platypus can tweak the model a little bit to give the bird a fatter head (lol). Here's another WIP for a Lilac-breasted Roller ![]() @Drax: I don't have an Asian Fairy-bluebird on my To-Do list, but I'll keep it in mind for a future project.

You are all in for beautiful and colorful birds i see ![]() This one looks great. Only think it looks weird to me is the texture of the brown feathers in the wing. |

Unfortunately, the UV map on that part of the wing is a bit distorted, and when the wings fold up, it seems to stretch/distort even more. Here's what they look like extended:

Well from that view it certainly looks much better. I can clearly see the texture there now, so i take back my critic. |

I'm also pretty crappy at posing models in Nifskope, so... I made have just done a bad job for the first render ![]() Right now I'm trying to knock out the skins I have decent models for. I haven't even looked at coding these guys yet. I'd still like to make a White-throated Kingfisher, Rufous Hummingbird, Banded Broadbill, Laughing Kookaburra, Blue-faced Honeyeater, Elegant Crested Tinamou, Greater Bird-of-Paradise, Chestnut-bellied Partridge, and a Black Hornbill before taking a break from designing and getting back to MFAS (which is what all these birds are, ultimately, for). Some of those will need edited models, some won't. Just gotta take it one bird at a time!

That list is awesome! I'm specially excited to see the partridge, the tinamou, the bird of paradise and the kookaburra! And the black hornbill will be a perfect fit for my new zoo You'll need to edit the bill of that one though.

Yup, we'll see what platypus can do with it after he gets back from vacation. I started working on the Tinamou, but I haven't gotten permission to use the model I'd prefer yet. The bill on that one needs major editing too, as does the crest, the neck, and the neck alpha. I can show it just as a (serious) WIP... ![]() Obviously it's kind of in shambles right now, but eventually I'll sort it out. |

I agree on what you said about the head, but the body is looking great! I think you used DD's guinea fowl right? It fits really good. I'm sure they are going to give you permission. The model is quite edited from the original, both skin and model wise. |

The head reminds me a bit of a Kori Bustard's. It looks really nice, are you going to show us all of your WIPs tonight I'd be totally fine with that by the way

Yup, it's the Crested Guineafowl model. For now, I'm content to have the skin started, but I'd rather continue working on the projects that won't require a major model overhaul. ![]() Also, I'm not going to exclude models that don't use Hendrix's new bone and animation sets. I love the improvements he made, but I'm really bummed the birds don't fly very high, so I'll be looking for the models that best fit the bird. @Drax: Depends on what I get done tonight. I've been itching to knock out the two Rollers, but I might just veg out on the couch for a few hours now that I'm satisfied with the main adult skins.

Rufous Hummingbird (Male, main variant) WIP![]() Weee! @Lazardi: I like it too... After desaturating and sharpening the texture layer, then adding color under it, I think it came out very "painterly," if that makes sense. The head and neck need a ton of work tho.. I honestly can't believe I showed that mess in my project topic. ![]() Side note: The hummingbird model (Jannick's, I believe) is super easy to work with and very fun. I highly recommend it for anyone curious about skinning as you don't need a lot of practice or "technical knowledge" to make something pretty. |
