yep, strange ![]() Though it's logical, here Hippos are called directly 'Kuda Nil' (Nile Horse), and seals are 'Anjing Laut' (Sea Dog)

Yeah, seals are also called "Zeehond" over here. Literally, that's "Sea dog". Hippos are "Nijlpaarden", literally Nile horses

Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands, wasn't it? Maybe that explains why the literal meanings of the words are the same a lot of times. |

Wait Gueinea fowl is Pearl Chicken? Lol I didn't even know there's an Indo word of it .Oh and for anteater, sometimes they say 'Landak Semut' . I always avoid saying it because it means 'Ant Porcupine' @Stephen: Long ago, they came here, along with Japan, that's why fried shrimp is also called Ebi ![]() Edit: and Portuguese . Explains why ball is 'Bola' here

These are the tree I find interesting. We call a Tree anteater tamandua (just as in English, isn't it?) Macaws are called Ara's in Dutch. Ostrich is Struisvogel, and vogel means bird (in Portuguese Ave/aves means bird, right?) so that means that it's like Struis/Struz bird

About the Anteaters it's basically like this: Anteater: Tamanduá Bandeira Tamandua: Tamanduá-Mirim/Tamanduá de Colete Silky Anteater: Tamanduaí And Avestruz/Ostrich is probably the same as in your language, but "struz" has no meaning at all in portuguese... Odd
