So I think the species should still retain anatotitan as a common name for the species.

To call something 'Anatotitan' when the genus is actually Edmontosaurus would just confuse things in my opinion EDIT: I think I'm confused on what you are saying. What you're asking for is like asking Apatosaurus to be called Brontosaurus, or T. rex to be called Manospondylus. I'm not saying that Anatotitan's original name was Platypus, but that this was the original generic name of the present-day monotreme commonly known as the Platypus, but its binomial name was later changed to Ornithorhynchus anatinus.
