(Thanks Brach for the ironic banner)

HELLO EVERYONE! My name is Biz and I love videogames. Like, I really love them and the entire video game industry as a whole. This includes spending hours and hours each day discussing games and the industry with others on big gaming boards and Twitter, researching sales data and industry trends, looking out for any cool sales on games to let others know and of course playing the games.

You see, I really want to be part of this industry. The easiest way to get in is blogging about videogames. I want to start small and this is the perfect place. I don't even care if anybody reads it or not, just knowing my thoughts are out there makes me feel accomplished.

So, now that's out of the way, this blog is about video games and the video game industry. This includes news about new releases or games to come, sales, opinion pieces based on current issues within the industry, etc. Top 10 lists are fun so I may do those. I may or may not do reviews, we'll see.

Some of you may not know how deep this industry goes, so I encourage you to read this to learn (Trust me it's fun) and for those who already follow the industry, read me instead because I'm not a moron desperate for clicks or paid off by big companies to say nice things about their garbage games.

I'll try to update at least once a day, I have smallish update planned for later (It was a slow news day lol)

Before I go here's some info about me:

Hey, you mention Platinum Games as among your favorites, I adore MadWorld, I've mentioned that before, but heard the semi-sequel isn't really similar in any way, would picking up Anarchy Reigns be worth it for me?

The game is multiplayer focused with barely any single player, but it is only $30 (don't know the UK), so if you have a PS3 I suggest getting it. The 360 online community is dead last I heard.

Hmm, shame, I'm more a single player gamer, I guess I'll hold out and save money for a Wii U with Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101, well thanks for the advice

Nice. I have only my first assumptions to go by on games. Hence why I expect the correct statement to come from you. Interested in seeing more (y)

Ok let's get the smallish update out of the way, today is also an extremely slow news day

July 18/19th 2013
- Earthbound (Mother 2) was released on the Wii U's Virtual Console service for $10. Not only is this the first time the game has been re-released, it's also the first time the game will legally be available in Europe. This release includes Off-TV Play on the GamePad, mapable controls, save states and its own community in Miiverse

- NamcoBandi has announced plans to make a dating sim with Homestruck creator Andrew Hussie for Web browsers. Players will get to develop relationships with their favorite Namco characters in a high school setting. Now I can finally bring my beautiful waifu Dual Fighter from Galaga to prom

- Last but not least, Capcom announced a new Strider game for digital download on PS4/XB1/PS3/360/PC. To be developed by Double Helix, it's set to be a 2.5 metroidvania type game. No plans for a Wii U version has been mentioned.
Trailer

And that's all for today. When I get back from work I plan to an analyst for sales figures in June for the US, so stay tuned.

Do Mother and Mother 3 have any hope for release in a similar manner?

I like the idea of a new Strider game, but with Capcom's... lets say less than impressive recent work and business decisions when it comes to their classic franchises... I'm not hopeful. Still hopefully my pessimism will be proved wrong and the game will be awesome

The future of Earthbound/Mother in the west all depends on how well Earthbound on VC sells, which I don't think it will have a problem since it has gained a strong cult following and is also available to a whole region for the first time.

As for Strider, yea I wouldn't get my hopes up, Double Helix has a horrible track record.

---

Now then, gather kids we're gonna talk about sales figures

"But Biz why should I care about that?"

Because despite what anyone says, in a console war the only thing that determines the winner is sales. Plus it's also fun to see your favorite games succeed. The following figures are for June 2013. These were tracked by the NPD Group for the US only (Japan and Europe have their own charts):

1. The Last Of Us (PS3) Sony
2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) Nintendo
3. Minecraft (360) Microsoft
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (360, PS3, PC, NWU) Activision Blizzard
5. NBA 2K13 (360, PS3, WII, NWU, PSP, PC) Take 2 Interactive
6. Injustice: Gods Among Us (360, PS3, NWU) Warner Bros. Interactive
7. Donkey Kong Country Returns (3DS, WII) Nintendo
8. Deadpool (360, PS3) Activision Blizzard
9. Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC)Electronic Arts
10. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) Nintendo

Now let me explain what you are reading here:

These are the ten best selling games for the month. The consoles in parentheses are the best selling versions in order (I.e. COD sold best on 360 and worst on Wii U)

the actual sales data are no longer released by the NPD Group themselves and are only released by the publisher and/or developer. The best people can do is make guesstimate based on the games with actual numbers.

Now, lets break this down shall we?

1. The Last Of Us (PS3) Sony

I already knew that this would be number one given how much it was pushed. Its complete universal critical acclaim probably also had a big hand too. What makes this special though is that people are in fact hungry for new IPs and are tired of the same old crap. Sony's PR stated that The Last Of Us had the second biggest opening for a Sony published game on PS3 (First being God of War III) so that means it sold at least 1.1 million copies. Outstanding

2. Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS) Nintendo
Nintendo PR stated that New Leaf sold 505k copies in a single month with 20% of it being from digital download (Me being one of them lol). This should help put the "HANDHELDS ARE DEAD) talk to rest since a handheld game selling this much in 2013 that isn't Pokemon is pretty jaw dropping. I mean, I expected it to chart but not this good.

3. Minecraft (360) Microsoft
Completely forgot that the disc release happened in June. Its quite popular with kids and was only $20.

4. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (360, PS3, PC, NWU) Activision
*Yawn* Normal crap. The latest COD charts up until the newest one comes out.

5. NBA 2K13 (360, PS3, WII, NWU, PSP, PC) Take 2 Interactive
Again pretty standard. interesting to note that the Wii U version of 2k13 had overtaken PSP and PC, but that's not saying much.

6. Injustice: Gods Among Us (360, PS3, NWU) Warner Bros
Still charting after two months of being out. Probably due to the lack of new releases in the summer.

7. Donkey Kong Country Returns (3DS, WII) Nintendo
My man DK still ripping up the charts with his 3DS re-release. Nintendo PR says that DK sold 108k copies this month, this month being it's second. These good sales should indicate some hope that DKC Tropical Freeze will succeed.

8. Deadpool (360, PS3) Activision
The dreaded summer drought causes people to buy trash it seems. I'm honestly surprised it charted.

9. Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC) EA
Another game that always seems to chart. Will probably fade away when BF4 hits this fall

10. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (3DS) Nintendo
Weegee got some legs. Its his third and probably his last. Nintendo PR says 115k copies were sold both at retail and digital (Note: NPD does not track sales off of download services like XBL, PSN, eShop or Steam) and all together has sold a whopping 750K in the US alone. Year of the 3DS indeed.

As for as console sales this month:
3DS: 225K
360: 140K

Nintendo is probably too embarrassed to show Wii U numbers and Wii and DS numbers probably weren't something to run home about. Sony never releases numbers anymore either ;(

3DS was up 40% from last year, probably thanks to Animal Crossing. New 3DS owners probably picked up DK and Luigi to go with New Leaf.

360 numbers are the usual. I doubt people flocked to the store to pick up a 360 for Minecraft but sales are certainly slowing down as we go further into next gen.

Overall, it was an ok month. Better than most summer months. 3DS proving that it can survive in a post iOS world. I'm not expecting much from next month though overall.
