First off, we'd like to apologise for the delay in creating this newsletter. The staff had a lot of work and the newsletter wasn't going to be ready on time, so we decided to skip the month and get it back on track after that. These two months have been amazing for us as staff and we hope it's been amazing for you as members too. There have been a few new changes to the site, including staff changes and the new Animalencyclopedia section, and we also had several different contests running for you. We trust that you enjoyed these past months at The Round Table and we thank you all for your commitment to this site!

You may or may not have noticed that the staff have been planning something exciting for this month. What it is, we won't say but we are sure you're going to love it! With this event, we will be bringing a whole lot of fun to the Round Table like we haven't had before! Make sure to keep up to date with the Official Staff Blog in the Blog Corner as we will be giving a few clues leading up to this exciting event!

The past couple of months have brought us a number of contests, but we still have two official contests that members can enter! The new Prehistory in the Present contest requires participants to take a photo of a prehistoric animal in a modern setting. Our second contest, Creature Creation v2 is the second Creature Creation contest - a contest that allows you to use your imagination and create your own animal, make a graphic of it and share information about it. If you want to enter, you better hurry because you only have until the 3rd of August!

You may or may not have participated in the Guess the Animal game we held here for the second time this month, but if you didn't get the chance to take part in this community game, do not worry. We will be holding more games this month for you to win animals for your miniprofile zoos!

For now, those are all the up and coming site events but stay tuned. This month is going to be a whole lot of fun for everyone!

We would like to congratulate this month (or two month)'s talent, Tyranachu!

1. When did you first design?
Honestly, I don't really remember, maybe a little less than a year ago? All I know is that I've been doing it furiously for quite some time.

2. What are your future wishes?
Hm... Well, I want to find someone to be crazy with. And never have kids. And strike it rich. And do good, for myself, and for others. Call me a suck up, but hey, everybody has that urge to help out.

3. When did you start your love with animals?
When I was a teensy little kid. I just find them very fascinating, I used to spend hours at a time imitating our dogs.

4. What are your achievements?
Well, I did win a big writing contest at second place and successfully created a 9 foot long dinosaur. But those are peripheral, I would say that my greatest achievement is becoming who I am right now.

5. What are your pet peeves?
A lot, actually. Right now I can recall being irritated by imperfect patterns, like floortiles and such, and how they give you lotsa homework before a weekend, stuff like that.

6. What are your thoughts for the future?
Thoughts for the future... Hm... Well, I can't really say much about that. I know my future seems "secure" enough, but you will never know what it is that life would chuck at you next.

7. Do you like sports?
...No. I'm not the sporty kind, back problems, heart palpitations and such, but I do try to keep fit.

8. What are your hobbies?
Designing, Drawing, Writing, Talking to the few good friends I have, Giving advice, and admiring beautiful girls. They're so captivating. (Hey, I'm only human. )

9. If you could travel back in time, where would you love to be?
WITH DINOSAURS. Preferably the Late Cretaceous. Just to find out for myself what certain famous dinosaurs did look like. *cough*featheredrexy*cough*

10. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I just want to be happy, I want to be a man who travels the world. But of course, I also want to be the guy who settles down in a big mansion. As for jobs and careers, not really sure.

So far, we're already well on our way into planning the whole system, with a simple but efficient money system and fun little features that you're sure to love. Gaia's Madagaiascar festival has recently finished, but the voting for the contests hasn't. The festival was a lot of fun for everyone who participated, from the contests and games to the downloads and goodies.

There were three different contests: one art, one designing and one Zoo Tycoon contest. The art contest required members to create a piece of art that depicted the flora and fauna of Madagascar. You can vote [here]. The designing contest challenged contestants to create an animal from Madagascar for Zoo Tycoon. You can vote [here]. The zoo building contest required participants to design a zoo exhibit area that contained at least three different species from the same Madagascan eco-region and three different downloads from the festival. You can vote [here]. There were a lot of excellent entries and I'm sure we are all waiting excitedly for the results!

Kingdom: Animalia

Order: Squamata
Genus: Tupinambis
Species: T. Merianae

Range:

General

The Black and White Tegu (Tupinambis Merianae) also called the Argentine Black and White Tegu is a South American lizard. They are the largest species of Tegu and fill the Ecological Niches similar to monitors. Tegus brumate (hibernate) during autumn like most reptiles and are quite intelligent.

Tegus are in a stable population for now. They are great pets, found all over the world. They may be aggressive at first, but when they get to know their owners, they will become loyal pets.

Habitat

Tegus came from South America, and are native to Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. Nowadays, tegus are kept as pets by many reptile lovers so are found around the world in various pet shops.

Diet

Tegus eat a variety of foods, being omnivorous animals. They eat a lot of calcium-rich food and their diet consist of crickets, mealworms, waxworms, roaches and rodents. Pet tegus are often fed fruit, ground turkey and an egg (with ots shell) as well.

Threats

These animals are hunted for their skin and, to a lesser degree, for the commercial pet trade. Not only that, they are also hunted for human consumption, along with other members of their Genus. Luckily, they are still in a very stable population.

Weight & Length

Male tegus grow the largest, and will reach more than 4 feet in length. Males are also bulky, unlike their female counterparts. Females grow to about 3 feet in length.

ZT2 Animal Guidelines

Unfortunately, Black & White Tegus haven't been made for ZT2 but if they were they would need a medium indoor enclosure, with a minimum size of roughly six feet x four feet. However, they are active animals and prefer larger spaces. As with all reptiles, they will need heat and UV lighting as a bowl of water. Tegus prefer humid enclosures and if the enclosures aren't humid enough, shedding problems may occur. The flooring should be something like bark which can hold in moisture and allow for the reptiles to dig. Logs, rocks, plants and other hiding spots are advised. Also, remember to separate males from each other as they will attack each other.

Pointies Animal

Posted Image Posted Image

Now that It's been made for the Pointies Zoo, You could purchase it as a gift for just 100 pointies. Just like the pet dogs and cats, the tegu is bought as a baby and the receiver of the gift can choose when it grows up. You may purchase a tegu gift here!

[anchor]questions[/anchor]Posted ImageInterviewed by: CRG

As with every newsletter, we've interviewed a few of our members with various questions to see what they think. This month, Flishstar, Acinonyx Jubatus and MakiCatta were interviewed.

Personal:

1. Have you ever been camping if so where?

I have indeed, and I love it. We rarely camp in the same place twice, but some of my favourites so far have been out by Brenda Lake and James Lake up in the mountains. Lake full of fish, nice places to set up tents, lots of hiking trails - I really love it up there. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
I've been camping a lot when I was young, most of the time in France. I've also been camping in Scotland 2 years ago with my family. It was my best trip ever! ~MakiCatta

2. If you could go to college anywhere in the world where would you want to go?

Washington State. Where else do you get mountains, rainforest, and ocean in one place? ~Flishstar
I think I'd go to Indonesia or maybe Australia... ~MakiCatta

3. What color hair do you find attractive?

Well, the girl I like is blonde, so I'd have to go with that, but honestly to me it doesn't really matter what colour hair she has (As long as she hasn't dyed it some really weird colour, like bright blue or green.) To me, the face and personality matter a lot more than the hair colour. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
I really like any color hair, though light brown is my favorite. ~Flishstar

Animals:

1. What is your favorite flower?

Oooh, tough one. Hmmmm... I'd have to say snapdragons. Especially the orangey-yellowy-pinkish ones. They're so pretty and fun to play with. Other than that I like marigolds, those bright orange lilies, and rafflesia for the weirdness factor. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
I don't really have a favorite. I guess everything except Petunias. ~Flishstar

2. If you could make an animal documentary what animal would you make it about?

You do realize that if you ask me this today you'll get a different answer than what you would get if you asked me tomorrow, right? Ha ha, today I'm thinking either the Boomslang snake, Banded Linsang, or maybe some sort of South American Jay. This is all assuming the question was referring to modern animals. If it was referring to extinct animals you might not be able to fit the entire answer in the newsletter. ~Acinonyx Jubatus.
Jaguars or Snow Leopards. Both are unappreciated big cats. ~Flishstar

3. If you were to create an article in a nature magazine about a location on earth which would you choose?

The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia comes to mind. Other than that I might go with the temperate rainforests on the coast of British Columbia and the Haida Gwaii archipelago. I love that place. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
Probably about some places in Africa or Oceania. ~MakiCatta

Forum:

1. What is your favorite board here?

Discussion Board I guess. Lots of stuff to do there. ~Flishstar
The reason why I'm on this forum is because it's very complete. So I don't know if I have a favourite board, but if I had one, it would be the Zoo Tycoon 2 board, especially the Show & Tells. ~MakiCatta

2. What theme for the board do you feel would be a nice addition?

Hmmm... Maybe one with a bit softer colours and less contrast? I like the main theme, but the stark gray-white and the blue and green is a bit too much. I like lighter boards a lot better than darker boards, too, so maybe a kind of golden and pale tan theme. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice to add a submarine theme. ~MakiCatta

3. What object do you feel is most needed for Zoo Tycoon 2 but hasn't been made yet?

Definitely a submarine ride. Or glass-bottomed boats. I have dreamed of making a river dolphin exhibit with that in my zoo since before I got ZT2. ~Acinonyx Jubatus
A raised floor so that you can make terrariums raised off the ground without destroying the terrain underneath ~Flishstar

Can you solve these riddles?

1. What comes once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years?

2. There are four brothers in this world that were all born together. The first runs and never wearies. The second eats and is never full. The third drinks and is always thirsty. The fourth sings a song that is never good.

3. You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What did you eat?

4. Each morning I appear to lie at your feet,
All day I will follow no matter how fast you run,
Yet I nearly perish in the midday sun.

5. What makes a loud noise when changing its jacket, becomes larger but weighs less?

Show & Tells:

The S&T section of any Zoo Tycoon forum is one of the most important parts of the community, which is why we believe that the S&Ts deserves more appreciation and attention. Who doesn't like viewing other people's zoos or posting your own zoo and getting a load of great comments? I believe everyone should stop on in and share a few positive comments, constructive criticism or even get involved and start a zoo.

Now think of this... if you don't stop in, how are people going to get positive comments throughout the community? How are we supposed to feel encouraged to continue playing the game we're all here for? The community challenge for this next month is to either start up an S&T if you haven't already OR pay more attention to the hard work everyone's putting into their zoos and give uplifting comments to a few zoo-builders, especially if they haven't already got many comments.

~ If you would like to apply for the position of Newsletter Manager, please post an application in the Staff PM Box. The newsletter manager will be responsible for putting the newsletter together each month and writing the sections that other members can't or haven't.~

Interested in helping out the forum? Well there are several things you can do to help us out!

1. Join the Newsletter Team! All the above posts were written this month, and next month you could be one of the writers! Post in the Staff PM Box and tell us what you would like to do, and we'll get you into something.
2. Report stuff. If you see something that is against the site rules, then just click that little report button so that we can see it ASAP. We can't be everywhere at once, so the sooner you let us know about it the better ;)
3. Assist. If you see someone who needs help, has a question, or isn't following the rules, kindly help them out if you can. Often times a staff will still follow up behind you, but we always appreciate seeing members helping each other out.
4. Be active. The more you post, and make topics, the more others can post and that will open more doors for you to post!
5. Be friendly. PM people, welcome people, and be patient with everyone, especially newer members. Remember, if you're kind to people, its very likely they'll be kind to you ;)
6. Submit Downloads. We have a nice download center so we mine as well get as many downloads as we can in it. We also have good download managers, so we had mine as well keep them busy too ;)
7. Offer your help in the Staff PM Box. We aren't looking to hire a bunch of staff, but that doesn't mean we don't need help. Let us know if you are available and we may just have something for you that would take a lot of pressure off of us.
