Alterbean7's Reviews; Now Reviewing: Zoo Tycoon 2 DS

Here I'll be doing reviews on different movies, tv shows, video games, etc.

I'll first be reviewing the game Wildlife Park 3.

Wildlife Park 3 is a nice game. The first two games were pretty good, especially the graphics of the second one, but this one has even more realistic graphics. The graphics are amazing, but a little bit cartoony I have to admit. What really annoys me about this game was the choice of animals. The game said that it would have African animals, marine animals and prehistoric animals. This makes you think that there are no expansions required and it has a broad selection of different animals to adopt. The only African animals were really basic, such as elephants, gazelles, giraffes, zebras, and lions. The selection of prehistoric animals was incredibly small. Just the woolly mammoth, elasmotherium, and smilodon. No dinosaurs at all. Then the worst selection was marine animals. There are literally no true marine animals, only the King penguin, the polar bear, and the sea lion, which are all semi-aquatic.

The interface is pretty easy and I like the idea of animals appearing for sale in the market at random times. Sometimes this is unfair though because it could take a long time for the animal you want to show up at the market. One thing I didn't like was that there isn't much interaction with the animals. Also, I didn't like the fact that you couldn't create the prehistoric animals unlike the first two games. You just buy them at the market as adults or juveniles.

The missions are very enjoyable but there is one thing about the maps that really annoy me. When you select a map and start, you build your park and then exit when you're done. Now you want to build a different park but on the same map. You go to the map selector and see that you now have the option to reset that map. You can't use the same map again without deleting the zoo that was first built there.

I like that they organized the animals by climate. There is Polar, Temperate, Subtropical, and Tropical. It was a bit strange that they decided to put Elasmotherium in subtropical, it would make more sense to go in temperate like the mammoth. What I love about this game is that it is so easy to modify and create new usermade animals. The reason why you can do this is the variation of animals in this game. There are different colored animals like the black mammoth and the white lion and they are somewhat considered as 'subspecies' of their normal counterparts. You can simply create your own 'subspecies' with a new name and the ini files for the animals can be easily manipulated using notepad.

Overall, it's a great game and I rate it 4/5 stars. :D

This concludes the review for Wildlife Park 3, see you next time with a new review!

Caution: Spoilers ahead!

Jurassic Park: The Game (Xbox 360)
Wow, Telltale Games took Jurassic Park to the next level in this awesome game. It is a puzzle-type decision game where you can make choices for the main characters Jessica Harding, Gerry Harding, and Nima Cruz. Sometimes the character can die if you make the wrong choice or if you don't click a button in time. I'm not going to be going through the entire story because it is incredibly long and it is even separated into four episodes. Anyway, here are my opinions of the characters, places, and creatures:

Jessica Harding is Gerry Harding's daughter, and she was a nice character but not the most important of them all. Gerry is the vet there and he knows a lot about the park. He is smart and knows how to deal with the dinosaurs. Nima is an interesting character, she knows a lot about the island because she used to actually live there before it turned into a theme park. Laura Sorkin was a strange scientist and created the Troodon. Hammond said they shouldn't be used for the park but Laura kept them secretly in the quarantine pens. She was trying to negotiate with the government about bombing the island and she decided to release a mosasaur in order to keep it safe from the bombing. The mosasaur then rammed into the glass, causing her to fall into the moon pool and get dragged under and eaten.

The creatures were fantastic, first there was Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dilophosaurus, Velociraptors, Parasaurs, and Compies, but then there were these new amazingly designed creatures. The Herrerasaurus are nice, but they are a bit too much like the raptors in my opinion, but of course, less intelligent as they were more primitive. The Troodon were really interesting, they had those quills running down their backs and those big bulbous glowing eyes. I also like how they are small, agile, quick and even venomous! The Tylosaurus is one of my favorites. It looked like a monitor lizard in a way, but I didn't really like its gigantic spiked tail. That was a bit unrealistic, but I am so glad there is finally a movie-canon marine reptile in the franchise!

There were a lot of cool locations. There was the bone-shaker, a rollercoaster that is attacked by Herrerasaurus, and they almost got killed riding it. It would be fun if a bunch of dinosaurs weren't pursuing you though. The marine facility was awesome, the glass rotunda was really cool and it would be amazing to see if the incident never happened. The group had to scuba dive with the Tylosaurus which seems pretty scary though.

At the end, Nima is eaten and so is an InGen mercenary, Billy Yoder by a T-rex on the dock. Jess gets on a boat and Jonathan is still being chased by the tyrannosaur. There are only two endings in this part. The first one is that Gerry is eaten and Jess just drifts away, which leads to a game over, and the real ending is when Gerry jumps onto the boat in time and they move away and watch as the T-rex roars on the dock.

Overall, it was so much fun to play and it's very challenging. I'll rate it 5/5 Glowing Troodon Eyes :D

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: I didn't know this but Nima can actually survive :)

Good one!! :D

But's it's Gerry Harding and there's an option to save Nima. (Furka had specified it :P ) (Damn the marine facility is too beautiful to be destroyed D: )

PS: also It was confirmed that JP IV will have marine reptiles (Marine Dinosaurs they say, but it's plain wrong)

Yeah, sorry, I haven't played the game in a while and when I played Nima died. Also, I read somewhere that the plot with marine 'dinosaurs' is not true :/

Primeval has won, so should I review every series? Or should I just cramp every series into one review?

Here's a short review on a game for iOS I got recently :)

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter (iOS)
This game I just got recently, and so far, it is really fun. Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter doesn't have much of a story, besides the fact that you are hunting dinosaurs on a different planet.

There are two ways to play: Survive or Hunt. Hunt mode is when you can choose the map you want, what time of day it is, your weapons, and the animals you're hunting. There are seven different vast maps to explore and hunt in, and three smaller options on what time of day it is. Dawn, Day, or Night. You get points for hunting animals and when you select an animal and then remove it from your hunting list, you get your points back in your account. There is also observer mode which you can find in hunt mode, where you take pictures of creatures. The creatures available to hunt so far are Parasaurolophus which costs 10 points, Ankylosaurus which costs 15, Stegosaurus which costs 20, Pachycephalosaurus which costs 25, Amargasaurus which costs 30, Allosaurus which costs 30, Oviraptor which costs 30, Chasmosaurus which costs 50, Velociraptor which costs 100, Troodon which costs 100, Spinosaurus which costs 250, Utahraptor which costs 250, Ceratosaurus which costs 300, Carnotaurus which costs 350, Gigantoraptor which costs 450, and lastly Tyrannosaurus Rex which costs 500. A lot of the dinosaurs are unrealistic though, like the Velociraptor which is featherless, the clumsy slow stegosaurus, and the upright beaked parasaurolophus.

The weapons are the pistol, shotgun, double-barreled shotgun, x-bow, rifle, and sniper rifle. There are four free boosters you can use. There is camouflage which makes you harder to see but it deducts 15% of the points you earned from the hunt, there is cover sent, which deducts 20%, tranquilizer which actually adds 25%, and there is radar which deducts 30%.

There is a trophy room where all of your hunted creatures are displayed, but all tranquilized creatures are not displayed there.

Then there is Survive mode. In this mode, you cannot walk around, you just simply stay in one place. You only have one weapon, the shotgun. Waves of dinosaurs start rampaging towards you and you must kill them before they kill you. There really is no reward for playing this mode, just your score.

Overall, it's an awesome simulation game with realistic graphics and a nice selection of dinosaurs. I think I'll rate it 5/5 featherless velociraptors :D

Thanks for reading!

The iPhone/iPad version is better anyway. Nice reviews, man. :)

Also, I think you answered your own question as to why the dinosaurs are so unrealistic within the first paragraph of the review: it's on another planet! xD
