Hi guys wanted to show you a few of my pets. First my German Longhair-Shepard "Barney" but i don't want to post pics of him on imgur where everybody can see him :(. Somebody knows how i can upload pic privat? My Peacock Chilid "Oskar" :fish: (with k cause i am from germany ;D) ![]() Know hes still a kid. I wanted to put him in a big tank with 100gal but he was sad. Hes now in his old 120l tnk and happy. Hes totally friendly to my neon tetras and "cleaning catfishes". He is happier in a way to small tank O_O. But if he wants to... Edited by Catfish11, Aug 15 2013, 06:55 PM.

Your fish is cute! But it is a Tiger Oscar, not Peacock Cichlid(Which usually means Peacock Bass). He looked freindly to your tetras and you catfish because he is stil young. When he start to reach about 3-4 inchs, you will find out that he will turn into fish eating monster that will consume all of his tankmate!!! So be prepare to move him, he can grow very fast. |

Yes i know, but Tiger Osacr is the breeding kind. The Peacock Bass is way bigger. The wird thing is his parents (belong to a friend of mine) are huge and are also friendly to neon tetras. I think the reason is that his parents were born with friendly fish. I mean fish are intellegent animals with feeling and sometimes personality. He could have inherit it from his parents. I dunno know?! |

The reasons that might explain how can those oscar could live with tetras are.... 1. The tank is very large, so the shoal can evade from the large predators. Many cichlid keeper call this type of shoal fish "dither fish" which can help some timid cichlid become more confident and active and show out their behavior. 2. Those oscars are fed very well, so they might not hungry enough to go after the tetras. (Which is still weird since most oscar will still consume the preys though they are full.) 4. Oscar's personality, some that are lazy are less likely to chase the fast moving tetra and would rather wait for the food from their owner. 3. The tetra's shoal is very large! So, the owner can't really notice that some of his/her fish have turned into dinner. 5. The tetras know KUNGFU! Tankmate eating is not learnt behavior, it come with the oscars even since the first day of their life through DNA. This called predator instinct, which oscars seem to have a lot of it! |

Ok two reasons are VERY REAL! First: My oscar eats very much and i let him "hunt" his food (my filter is strong ;D). Second: I think my tetras know KUNGFU. 5min ago Oskar attacked one tetra... Didn't end well for him. The neon attacked back and CHASED him trogh the whole tank O-O. Oskar pissed his pants and is still hiding in his cave ![]() Your 4th way is right too. He don't even wants to ove one fin... |
