No, it's used for identifying which chicks are from which parent for the breeder. But some people buy these chicks as seasonal gifts and that's where the issues start to happen. Actually, it's just food coloring, as I said in the post with the picture, the feathers grow in as they would as though the chick hadn't been dyed in the first place. Also, they live normal lifespans as most chickens do
