Well you are killing deer, which is a common prey animal, so that's okay. |

wow i missed a lot of comments in just a few hours ... Slender, Sport Hunting isn't necessarily killing rhinos or elephants (two species which i think should never be hunted except those cases of mad elephants that kill people): there are people who pay lots of money just to hunt Impalas or warthogs, which isn't much different from deers here. and in this case, you can have food, trophy, sport and possibly population hunting at the same time. and of course i dislike shark finning: even if the fins are eaten, there's a huge waste. Italy is one of the main consumer of shark meat (a majority of it sold under false names) but at least we eat the whole shark. |

No not exactly, but as long it's not endangered and it's not wasted and humanly put down, I guess is OK... |

Isn't shark meat and other large marine predators carries large amount of dangerous metal such as Mercury? I think I have heard that somewhere. |

Yes, it usually does as sharks are apex predators and the sea is pretty polluted in some areas so it all builds up in them as they eat the little bits contained in the smaller fish. |

My opinion on hunting? Hunting is conservation, a source of food, and sport. I've never hunted for pure sport, but I don't see whats so horrible about it, if you don't waste the meat, and follow the rules and regulations. In short, I support hunting fair game, and not endangered species, or hunting out of season or poaching |

I have nothing against hunting whatsoever as long as the animal is eaten or otherwise not wasted. Predation is an entirely natural thing and people should not feel bad for engaging in it. Some might argue, "Humans are intelligent and have morals and therefore should know better than to kill because we take too much etc etc.". But - in terms of the human race - I think we're way too harsh on ourselves sometimes. We're living creatures of this Earth too and have just as much right as any animal to live here and use the planets resources, including taking prey to eat. For one, it's a lot more humane - and fair, as the animal has a chance to escape - than the way livestock is farmed for the food industries. I don't agree with hunting endangered animals of course, but if the population being hunted is healthy - or overpopulated - then by all means, go hunt. There's also nothing unnatural about enjoying the act of hunting, as evil as that might sound. I'm certain animals enjoy hunting very much too whenever hunger isn't overriding that. You'll see them play with their food sometimes in nature documentaries, and imagine the adrenaline rush they surely get while on the chase. Nature is harsh and cruel sometimes, and we are a part of that. I feel that, through hunting, we engage our more "wild" and instinct-driven side and really embrace the predator side of ourselves. It's simply in our nature and is a completely natural and healthy thing to do. |

We're an interesting species, which is the reason hunting is so controversial to some people. An omnivore by nature, we're believed to have been able to develop our advanced minds in part by the consumption of meat as a result of our ancestors learning to hunt and doing so with regularity. However, technically, (at least some of us) seem completely able to subsist on plant fare alone. This, coupled with our morality, something no other creature has to such an extent (a lion never thinks about the feelings of the impala it's about to kill - it's just not capable) is reason enough for some people to infer that we should not be eating meat or hunting at all. But my opinion, when it all comes down to it, is we're omnivores. And honestly, meat just takes good, even if we don't necessarily require it. And it is an easier, more convenient way of obtaining certain nutrients than if you had to get them all from plants, even though in theory you could. Is that a valid reason? A good one? Probably not. But it's my opinion that, provided it is done humanely, hunting (and eating animals in general) is fine. Just because we have that morality doesn't mean we shouldn't kill animals. Should we beat them? Starve them? Just abuse them for our amusement? Of course not. But can we use them for sustenance? I think so. As long as we do it right. And while some people might consider it sadistic, I don't think "enjoying the hunt" is anything bad. It's embracing a primal, rarely-used instinct present within all of us, like any carnivore. I don't see anything wrong with that. Should you enjoy causing an animal pain? No, obviously. But as far as the act of searching, pursuing, and succeeding in bringing down your quarry, I don't see anything wrong with that. |

We humans are omnivores. I think I still prefer the deer someone has shot, with the deer having a chance to escape, than some farmed cow, full of chemicals and probably unable to feed on grass, as I will always prefer to eat a fish I got out and killed myself. To me, if nothing is wasted and it doesn't endanger the species, hunting is okay. For example, hunting invasive species can be for sport, meat and conservation at the same time. |
