they are in the same order (and maybe family but i'm not sure). and Sportfishing lakes here aren't much different Flish: usually they are small man-made quarries that were flooded with the time, a 2 hectares one is already a big lake. such environments experience big changes in the water temperatures and oxygen levels during the year, which makes them good for only the tuffer of the species (and 90% of them are alloctonous). the bad thing about thse lakes is that they are often vidited by people who claim to be fishers but should find a different hobby in my opinion: they go there because they know they can easily catch the fish, a lot and big (as if fishing means size and numbers), but then they show no respect for the fish itself, often leaving it with permanent scars from removing the hook in rude ways, or for the environment, leaving trash everywhere. |

At least you can get fish in your lakes. You're lucky to catch four fish most of the time on any of the public lakes, and out of that usually only one is even legal size to keep. Our lakes are pretty big but are really shallow and mess up the weather horribly. |

we catch the fish because the lakes are actually overstocked: i'm sure very few of those fish could survive on on their own in such a lake, and for some they are probably too small even for a single fish. that's why in some of the small lakes Spinning it's forbidden: the owners fear that instead of catching trouts thenormal way, you'll end up hooking carps from outside the body and ruin them. and i'm sad to say, but the sea here is also in very bad consitions: the coast here is all sandy and not deep, and the only rocky areas are man-made, which makes this a relatively poor habitat. in addiction to this, trawlers can fish from a distance to the coasts taht would be illegal in most countries in the world i think, but since we are in Italy and laws are made to be broken, some people actually go fishing even closer, which contributes to making the habitat even more poor of species. I've only ever caught small sunfish before, although quite a few of them, and one time a twelve inch brook trout. Our lakes here are honestly very poor for fishing, generally being very overgrown, overfished, or polluted, and on top of that I just have very poor luck, it seems. After a few hours with no luck, however, I usually end up chasing frogs instead because I can at least catch those. I do enjoy fishing, however. It's relaxing and an enjoyable way to spend the day. Even if I apparently stink at it. ![]() We do have stocked lakes here though I've never visited one. I'd probably catch something if I did, but fishing in a stocked pond just always felt like cheating to me. |

you could visit a stocked lake sometimes, i know it's not like wild fishing but it can still help you improving your technique. and you can have a lot of fun if you are not alone. i usually visit these lakes in winter, when there's few fish active in the wild and the weather often prevents you to go looking for them, to have some fun with sturgeons and trouts. farmed trouts are actually used to eat pellets, so they are harder to catch with lures. all this talking about lakes reminds me of the Sportfishing RP me and Crook were working on ... anyone interested ? Stocked lakes also also charge you to use, which is annoying. |

Since when? It's free to go to any stocked lake I've been to. Our beaches aren't much better. just all sand and black sea bass. Rarely you'll catch inedible lizard fish or sometimes one or more other edible fish.

@Flishstar All stocked lakes in Indiana are found in State or County Parks, which charge an admission fee to enter. How else is the state going to get back the money they spent stocking the lake? I don't know anybody who privately stocks their own lake, like you may. |

i visited this lake today which was supposed to belong to FIPSAS, but i discovered that it's now privately managed, which means you have to pay everytime you go there. that's bad, because the lake is known to have some big pikes in it. maybe i'll still make some attempts during winter ... other than that, there are rainbow trouts (winter only) and a lot of carps (common, mirror, grass, crucian, silver) and maybe a few sturgeons. some people have managed to catch 90 kg of fish in one day (in what is basically a large garden pond ...) |
