What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

No offense Nomis but are you trying to find really horrible images of dinosaurs on purpose? These aren't that bad, I mean yeah they're not accurate but I wouldn't call them horrific

To be honest a lot of the ones you've posted expecting 'eyes to burn' weren't that bad xD

Well a female eoraptor doesn't need a flag tail to say if she's interested or not. Also I don't think the tails were that mobile.
Eoraptors don't have Stiff tails like later Theropods(Tetanurae).

Sorry but what the hell

Considering sometimes the only factor seperating two genera is their distribution, I see nothing wrong with naming things after their location

'Spinosaurus doesn't sound latin enough for you' eh? wow. because we care so much what sounds latin to you (plus, the logic you used could also be applied to T. rex, since Tyrannosaurus sounds like Tyrant as much as Spinosaurus sounds like Spine)

The 'criticisms' of Iguanodon and Achillobator's naming shows the guy who wrote the article is an ignorant sod looking for cheap laughs ._.

Also I see nothing wrong with Bruhathkayosaurus, I actually really like the name and the meaning (which can't be said for things like Lythronax and Teratophoneus, whose names sound cool but have meanings that sound like they're describing some vicious killing monster)

Also I could list freakin' tons of names that sound better than Tyrannosaurus rex in my opinion

People who think palaeontology is only about dinosaurs :P It's surprisingly difficult to find information about Cenozoic animals, especially the ones that don't have trunks or saberteeth :P

I find that for many animals before the Pleistocene (bar a few well known species, like Gastornis, Basilosaurus, Phorusrhacos etc.) it's hard to find information on them, which is a shame because there were so many bizzare and interesting forms before the Ice Age.

hahahahahaha
man I love that series
the DS version was my favorite of the series tho, with its open world segments, even if it had the worst fights by far. Wii had the best fighting by far, and best multiplayer. 3DS was sort of in between, it had "open world", but it was really lousy you piratically just walked in a line, and its fights were better than the DS, but not as good as the Wii. I've never played the Dragons version.

sure its inaccurate, but its meant to be, that makes it more fun
you can also unlock feathers for your raptors if you want to improve them a little, and even feathers on tyrannosaurs, which is pretty damn awesome

I guess I have to agree
it just feels like a miracle setup, but its still pretty cool and frankly its still accurate

Okay really. Female dinosaurs are clearly not more colorful than males. We even see it on birds where males are the pretty boys and females are more drab. It is just people think females are the entertainers of males.

this one requires individual analyses

*coughcough* no
A) this isn't true of all, or even most birds, most birds have little to no gender dimorphism, and while many of the bird species that do the males will display and the female will choose whom she likes better, the reverse can also be true
B) dinosaurs are not birds, you can not assume every little aspect of their behavior from extant species, its best to base aspects of behavior on extant species, but using this as a rule book is wrong, there is plenty of room for speculation in paleontology, most of all in behavior

I'm going to stop you here before you start sounding sexist
I get that you meant to accuse the theory of being sexist, but you ended up coming across more than a little yourself
ironically for the exact opposite stereotype of the one you called out

Make that the latest Pleistocene, actually. Even early and middle Pleistocene animals can be very difficult. Basically only the last Ice Age is well-documented (in open-access sources, at least).

Saurosuchus kept leaping like a frog. I never knew rauisuchians spent all their time to move from one place to the next leaping.

Oh I know :P but information on these species is still far more readily-available than a lot of animals from earlier epochs.
