in almost every game with one, call styracosaurus triceratops
I'll give you that one :P but the discussion became more about general media than exclusively video games and that's why I said that

I agree, if people can't be bothered to just look at a name (if it's present ingame, sometimes they're not), then that's annoying. I've watched LPs of TSL where they've called Stygimoloch and Gallimimus raptors, Carnotaurus T.rex etc.

TSL I can sort of understand, it never actually states in game (AFAIK) what species everything is

DDD actually has flashing text on the screen telling you to "protect the styracosaurus" :P

When I watched the Let's Play, it told you what dinosaur you killed :P (this guy was told he killed a Stygimoloch, and decided to call it Stygiraptor >.>)

I haven't played TSL in a while, I'd forgotten xD

About the "stygiraptor". Yeah, that is a habit I hate. People try to pronounce a dinosaurs name, are not able to, and just end up calling it something stupid they know is wrong. Half the times, the names are not even that hard, like when people have a problem saying psittacosaurus, how hard is that? It is not, yet they just end up calling them "psitakeasrfassaurs" for no good reason.

It happens a lot really, people skim the names, and then give up immediately. This may seem like a pet peeve, and by all accounts, it is, but I am just sick of people never being able to pronounce names, how come you can pronounce pterodactyl, but not bloody carnotaurus? No, it is not blimmmin' carnoSAURUS! There is not even an S in carnotarus for gods sake.

Yes there is, it's on the end, Carnotaurus

Nah I'm just kidding xD I know what you mean, how hard is it to read that it's a t and not an s?

It is funny how so many people assume all dinosaur names end with Saurus, even though only two out of the famous group: Brontosaurus(sigh), velociraptor, triceratops, tyrannosaurus, actually have it in their names.

at times reading the names it can be hard to figure out the pronunciation, but when people don't even make an effort its very annoying

I can understand some names, but the extent to which people cannot pronounce them seems to indicate that they just do not try.

I can get how psittacosaurus might be hard to get, but try it a couple times and then you can get something at least recognizable

(sit-a-co-saurus is how I pronounce it)
