Pterosaurs being constantly compared to bats. They're both quadrupedal and both have wings consisting of a membrane supported by one or more elongated fingers, but aside from that the two groups have absolutely NOTHING in common!!!

Bats can't even walk on their legs. They're too weak. |

A few actually can manage (vampire bats for instance, they can even gallop to some extent). |

This is more of a note to the post above.. It all essentially depends on wing to leg length ratios.. All pterosaurs were already quite disproportionate... - but some, like the azhdarchoids, ctenochasmatoids, most rhamphorhynchoids and anurognathids, basal ornithocheiroids have nearly equal wing-leg proportions, thus allowing them to walk quite neatly - and others, like the ornithocheirids proper, pteranodontids, and nyctosaurids, have wings far longer than their legs, and thus won't be able to walk much... Nyctosaurids are even more notable for having no wingclaws at all... These guys would be the ones very adapted to pelagic seafaring... Edited by Even, Aug 3 2014, 11:36 PM.

There's less dinosaur fanboys, but to be honest the community's still full of other types of fanboys... What annoys me is that my best friend (who is a girl) has shown an interest in Palaeontology and often talks to me about it, but her friends are starting to ignore her because of it. Why does her liking Palaeontology affect them?

Those kind of people just care on "trendy" things are and ignore things/people they think "lame". This thinking on Paleontology really annoys me. |

Dnews... just Dnews... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-7iXyYS0uw I am so sick of these people, and yet I stay subscribed, why? Because sometimes, on SOME subjects they are right, but paleontology? Nope, they do not have a clue. In this latest video, he makes so many mistakes it is hard to even count. Previously, Dnews reported on giant sloths for no bloody reason. No new research or discoveries had been made, no new species named, nothing, they just suddenly decided "you know what? SLOTHS!", and made it seem like giant sloths had just been discovered. |
