What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

I hate that I'm going back to school and I'm having to deal with what cyborg has to deal with and here's a quote from the idiots Are you going to go home and hug your pet dinosaur mind your own buisness you idiots and then there's the thing I hate about everyone thinking that dinosaurs are just for little kids.
The "Cool guys" will always make fun of everyone who isn't interested in the same things as they are. Or of those who are, but aren't 'in the group'. Doesn't matter if you're into paleontology, hockey or even astronomy. Not cool = DURRR STUPEED. Can't help it. Herd mentality sucks. It makes humans behave like they had no consciousness on their own and only acted upon instinct instead of thinking what crap they're spewing at others.

off topic of WAYAP on topic of horrible school mates

*cough* back to WAYAP
when companies claim to be making "museum quality replicas" and actually are making movie monsters, I mean look at this "Y-rex" (yutyrannus)
huge quote
I mean yah its an ok figure, but their uptight claims make me not want to buy it since it doesn't hold up, its inaccurate, and yet they are using incredibly vague and misleading advertising to try and sway people to think its "based on latest studies" and "museum quality"

How can they claim it to be accurate, yet have less feathers than the actual fossil proves it has? ._.

I don't know, but its shameful, and its already a notable black-mark for the company (especially its marketing)

y-rex, every time I read that it pisses me off, so damn cheesy

The way that many people will assume that any dinosaur that looks even remotely like one of the select few they know must be that dinosaur. No lady, that ceratopsian over there is a Styracosaurus, NOT a Triceratops! Sometimes I wonder if these people even know just how many different kinds of dinosaurs there were, or just how few they're actually familiar with.

It's not so much the fact that they don't know what it is that bothers me, but the fact that they just go ahead and ASSUME what it is even though they have very little knowledge on the subject.

Today at a museum this religious lady got into an arguement with the museum staff about how the dinosaurs are all fake and they are violating her belief. She said she was gonna sue them. She was literally screaming and bitching out

I want to see that happening. I'll call poe's law on this one. Might've been just someone trolling there purely for fun. I mean, people aren't that... I can't find a word. Are they? ._.

I dunno, Gorsh, you've seen the stuff I've said about palaeontology, so if I can say the stuff I've said in earnest, than anything is possible.

Please tell me it was one of those museums where everything comes to life at night, and that her argument with the staff lasted until well after closing time. xD

The huge lack of info on smaller animals.
"insert name here" was a genus of prehistoric turtle from the Morrison Formation.

I need more than that !

Often that's about all we know about such creatures, since smaller animals are less likely to fossilize.

But there's more stuff we could be told, like the size or an estimate of it, or if said turtle was aquatic or not.

I mean, if I don't have infos on the species living in the environment, how am I supposed to make another story oh sheep I speak too much ...

Ugh!

So I was having a nice conversation with some other folks yesterday, about plesiosaurs, then a 'Professor' from the campus' biology wing came by, listened in, then piped in, "Hey, isn't that what people think Big Foot is?"
