Lack of public recognition to pretty much any dinosaur aside from those starring in monster movies. This forces people who write news articles about paleontology (not necessarily on paleo-focused sites) to constantly refer to newly found dinosaurs as "A relative of the famous T-Wreckz" which only further advances the ignorance of humans that read these articles and don't feel compelled to google info about the mentioned animals - after all T-Wreckz is the famous monster who ate lawyers and terrorized poorly managed animal parks, and that's all they need to know. Drop in a name famous in paleo-community like "Edmontosaurus" and they'll become confused. I know, I shouldn't be judgemental, but minimal knowledge of at least existance of such few iconic animals in past isn't anything beyond knowing that sometime ago, woolly mammoths walked the land and would allow for better reference point for the masses. But unless the popular media come up with a brilliant idea how to turn them into amusement tools, probably another monster, paleontology will be "kid stuff" or "nerd stuff" or "useless science stuff" for the masses. Could not agree more MrGosh. I know nobody that can name anymore than the 6 basics T.rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, "The Long necked" ones as they call them, the pterodactyls that ate people and killed anything it saw. And the swimming dinosaurs of course

Some even don't know any dinosaur species, and think that 'dinosaur' is a species. |

I think there is actually a genus called Dinosaurus, but it's a pseudosuchian if I'm not mistaken (and I'm not even sure it's still valid). |

One time I got into a fight with some kind in second grade because he claimed that pteranodons, not ptserosaurs because obviously all pterosaurs are pteranodons right, were dinosaurs and I was like "Uh... NOPE!" |

How most people that aren't palaeontology fans could really give less of a care about dinosaurs that aren't the famous T WRECKZ and VELOCIRAPTA. There are so many dinosaurs out there that are cool and awesome, much more cool and awesome than T WRECKZ. |

Like Nanuqsaurus, Sauroposidian, Spinosaurus, Microraptor, and Kulindromeus for example, this is an add on the Diablo's statement. |

I personally don't think people should have to be paleo-fans in order to recognize facts like pterosaurs aren't dinosaurs or that there are more than 6 friggin' dinosaur genera. |
