While I'd love to see a living pterosaur, they are still without a doubt extinct so this is a wasted project (especially with the creationism motive).

Maybe it isn't impossible for pterosaurs to still be alive but if they were you'd think there wouldn't be such a large gap in the fossil record, sightings that reflect our current view of pterosaurs (nothing that looks like it was ripped out from the 19th or 20th century), pieces of dung, a corpse or two, and non-fossilized tracks. We have none of this so it's extremely unlikely that pterosaurs aren't extinct. Edited by Guat, Jul 31 2015, 06:26 PM.

Living pterosaurs may of course have differed SOMEWHAT from our current view of them (after all, we still don't know everything about them), but indeed they shouldn't look like 19th-century depictions. |

I agree, but he does not know the difference between dinosaur, marine reptile, and pterosaur.

To be fair if you were told to draw a four-winged ancient reptile without any reference pics its at least one millionth of a resemblance if you knew nothing about dinosaurs. You know what really grinds my gears? When people confuse archeology with paleontology. Words can't explain how much I utterly DESPISE these people! |

As someone who's studying to become a paleontologist I understand, way too well. The amount of times I have to explain to people that a paleontologist and an archeologist are not the same thing, and that I am NOT becoming an archeologist is just... UGH. I've also been annoyed by: people who claim dinosaurs didn't really exist just to pick on people who like them, people who make up dinosaurs to offend people who like dinosaurs, and people who try to impress girls who are into paleontology by attempting to demonstrate a preschooler's knowledge of T. rex and Triceratops. |

When the "NO SHRINK-WRAPPING" thing goes too far and we end up with mosasaurs looking like ichthyosaurs. Especially when you apply similar amounts of flesh to skeletons of modern animals and then we get hippos that are so fat they can't lift their bellies off the ground and you wouldn't be able to tell where the animal's head ends and where the body begins. |
